Hey Jqmce . Yah it was a bit of a kick in the nuts , but not so much that it went bang , more so that I did not finish the ride and it was the first time the five left me by the side of the road . You live , you learn . Like I said before I ride the five really friggin hard and it runs like a rocket since the rebuild with the same case . Keep up the good work .

I have the crank half way rebuilt with no major issues but i did notice that two of the dark weights that are cast in to the crank webs are loose. Not much movement around between 0.2mm and 0.7mm but enough for it to be a concern. So im asking if anyone has seen this before and if so what is the best way to solve this problem. Do people just punch them to hold position or is there another method? Thanks guys, Jules

Hey Guys i got the balancing plugs (lead, aluminum inserts) to fit tight i just gave them a tiny squeeze from either side and bam they hold tight. It was actually not too bad assembling the crank but its not for the faint of heart that's for sure. Every thing you do must be 100% square when you put it in the press. I spent about an hour just squaring up the press to ensure there were no nasty angles to really F*#ck things up. To my surprise the total run-out on the crank freshly assembles is 10 thou. This is even before bumping the webs to get it within 2 thou and that's the job for this afternoon.

Well here are the results of an extremely frustrating morning. The process of aligning the crank and getting all of the webs in sync is where the black art begins and I am by no means an artist. If I were to do this again I would send the crank to Don to have it aligned by a "true crank builder" as its just not worth the headaches. A great learning experience none the less. TTNUT Center is 2.5 thou and that's the best i could get. There are many ways to hold the Crank too and this can make a big difference on the measurements you get. In the vid was the last way i clamped and it was a little easier as i could work from one central point. (main bearings) and then out in both directions as appose to holding both sets of bearings. Ill let it sit overnight and re check in the morning.

Being one to want to do everything myself, I learned long ago, some things are better left to the experts. Usually things get screwed up, or you waste a lot of time and money.
