Like everything else, its becoming a rich mans sport. Might change when this starts effecting product sales. I know Id like to own some of those big bikes, but the insurance costs kind of makes it prohibative.

Carbs are clean. Fuel pump has a 1/4 inlet and the fuel tap has a 3/8 outlet. Thinking of not using an inline fuel filter as there are good strainers on the fuel tap. That being said, extra filtration isn't a bad thing. The one that came on the bike isn't oem and I want to get it outta there. I have a big honker and a small sintered one I could use. Curious about fuel starvation with the sintered one. Maybe I'd just need to change it more often? I dont think this 4 stroke pulls as much fuel as a triple, mind you, I usually use 1 filter per fuel line on my 500. Need a 1/4 to 3/8s adapter anyhow.

Bottom of the "new" tank is now sealed up for the acetone de-varnishing treatment.

Fixing the broken fuel gauge too, found the break in continuity on the wiper wire. Should be in good shape by tomorrow.

Was able to re-solder the broken wire and tighten up the wiper arm. Continuity reestablished. Unit fixed.

Had the acetone sitting in the tank for 3 months with the odd shake up here and there. Drained it and it came out bright red. Most of the varnish is gone. Yes! Rinsed and back on the bike. Fresh fuel and it started right up smooth. Sounds great! The carb clean really helped. Front sprocket seal leaks a bit but not too bad. It's a ratty rider or at least a good candidate for a flip. We'll see. I need new shingles and a dining room window for my house. The epic rain we've had has taken its toll. Maybe I need to move into the garage..

Signed up w imgur in the meanwhile. Well see if this works... As cool as the red tape was, it was peeling off. Time for something more permanent...

Turned out pretty good. Decent match for the red. Used krylon banner red gloss. Sanded the strip with 400 grit paper before wiping with alcohol, then applying 3 coats 10 minutes apart. Now the rear of the bike then the other side. The red tape on this side is too high, you can see the upsway towards the back, will correct that with the paint.

Laying tape for the right side now. Trying my best to keep it symmetrical while using internet photos as guides.

Very nice. I'd love to get one of these. Late 80's kawis are hard to come by down here.
