Am in for at least one more. -- an interesting fact from my friend Helmut Clausen about fluid. At 83 he is still racing his Zundapp. He told me that while racing in his early years in Europe no one could afford Margura hydraulic fluid. They would use Johnson's Baby Oil which worked fine.

Inspiration from TTNut's 350. I ordered some seals from Jim's recommendations. Any input, opinions or advice welcomed.

Once you go Ned, you'll wonder what was wrong with your head. You'll stay up instead of going to bed, trying to get that sucker bled. DOT5 mess until you're red, you'll cuss up a storm and wish you were dead. Thank the triple gods for slave cylinder Ned.

I tried a few pistons before I got to this one, the seal doesn't catch on the edge of the cut out inside the barrel so you can push it all the way in and out while syringing in the fluid which seems to push up any bubbles. If you do a search on Ebay or Amazon it will pull up the piston and specs (22.2mm) although non of the specs ever mention overall length and depth of the hole so I used a bit of trial and error. I wanted to find a piston that didn't need machining so I could get replacements easily even if my lathe was packed away. A lot of cars use this piston so it should be available for a good while. Got lucky on the third try!! Every other piston I tried needed machining to get to the right length etc, this one is perfect. Is this for use with Ned's slave cylinder? Why did you change out to this pistion?

Changed to this piston because I kept breaking the seals trying to bleed the damn thing, this made it easy. Ned's seal would probably work OK once it was bled properly but I never got the chance to find out because of bleed issues.
The new piston / seal works perfectly and it is also very cheap so my advice would be to get Ned's slave and this piston. It's a straight swap for Ned's piston, no machining or fiddling about.

Hi Guys I've read all 35 pages, the Magura in the link above says to use mineral oil only, will using DOT 5 cause an issue?
It seems lots of guys are using the DOT 5 but I don't know if they are using the Magura that says mineral oil only
thanks

Gary,
Here's a link to a MUCH MORE condensed work instruction / youtube instructional video.

ALSO..to answer your question about the DOT 5; YES..it is compatible with the Magura Master.
It's also good with this set-up since Neds Slave Cylinder uses a cup seal from a brake caliper so the Dot 5 will not expand the rubber and wreck your seal. ..I believe that was addressed in the 35 pages somewhere.
BUT ONLY DOT 5!! Don't cheap out with other brake fluids as they are not compatible.

BUT ONLY DOT 5!! Don't cheap out with other brake fluids as they are not compatible. Thanks for the info, just brilliant. Long story made real short ... my bike was getting a safety check done after a full on rebuild when I severed two tendons in my left hand. This was two and a half years ago So the perfect solution was Ned's kit. I bought all the correct parts to have this done but with my left hand in a cast I brought it to a local mechanic to do. I gave him a bottle of DOT 5 and told him how to bleed the system. He saw on the Magura M/C that it was stamped use mineral oil, so that's what he did. The cup seal of course reacted to this. I brought the bike back to him with a new seal and asked him to clean out the system and use the DOT 5 like he was supposed to. When I got the bike back the clutch was still not working. As soon as the bike would warm up the clutch would not work. Of course I found out at a stop light, heavily applied front brake kept me from rear ending the car in front. Bike stalled of course but I was close to home so I pushed it. Thanks for your detailed instructions I can tackle the job myself. I will clean out the M/C, lines and slave unit just to make sure there is no residual mineral oil in there and start over with fresh DOT 5. I didn't do anything with the bike last summer as I was pretty discouraged. But after a full nut and bolt rebuild the project needs to be finished. The bike came in 3rd in a local biker build off competition so there is lots of potential there. What it needs in addition to a working clutch is a stock paint job. I was reluctant to spend any more cash on this until I know I can ride it. Thanks again for your info and the support of the Triples Community. I would never have even gotten this far without support. These bikes need to be put back on the road. Cheers Gary
