Cool thread! Maybe an S frame With a modified H2 engine? Back a long time ago on KTWW forum, Bill had tried to get an H2 motor to work in an S2 frame and had all kinds of handling issues. I wonder with an S series frame if it would be more feasible???

The S series frame is only 1-2 lbs lighter than the H series frame... The package just handles better. The lightness of the S series is from the front end assembly but I don't think it's up to the H2 rotating mass.

I agree with Walms here. The H2 engine is to heavy & the handling would suffer.I'm looking for the the best of both worlds here. The Mongrel is a good example. The weight loss is about as low as possible without costing a fortune Now to get to the 4.6, HP is the way.Even so head to head at the same HP/weight,I think the 500 is a better package.

Couldn't your goals be easily obtained with a s2 or 3? You lose a bit of weight and I'm sure you could get good power out of a 350

Yes,it could be done with a 350,500,or 750.That's why I came up with an attainable number (4.6) All you have to do is look around your garage and see what parts you have the most of. I have mostly 500 parts.

What does a RD rolling chassis weigh?

I think my H2 is something like 400 LBS.
That makes the Power to weight ratio in a 3,25-3,5 lbs/hp area.

Do we have the weight of LC's bike ? He shaved off quite a bit and raised his HP appreciably.

LC's 500 would definitely be the lightest H1 framed H1 but I don't think he made it to 300 lbs.
I honestly think it would be more realistic or at least cheaper to tune a 400 to 65 hp and meet the 300 lb. mark.

I think Adrian Tyldesley's stunning white 400 (tuned by Abbey) produced something like 60 rwhp or something, and this bike was VERY light. Must be a thrill riding such a bike for sure. This one: kawtriple.com/mraxl/articles/adeskh400/adeskh400.htmBut a 70'ish rwhp 500 in same chassis must be even greater???

That was the bike I was thinking of. I recall 65hp but maybe I'm wrong on that? Another stat I'm struggling to remember is the weight difference between a fully assembled 400 vs. 500 engine... I'm thinking 25 lbs. but not certain?

Have no Clue, never been into a 400.
It had 62 rwhp by the way, dyno sheet in the article.
Man, that bike is nice

Agreed, an awesome bike! When I was looking for uber light wheels for the G3, I was told by a board member that 1989 NSR 250 rims are something like 12 lbs. each, that's an easy way to shed 30-40 lbs!

Cool thread, Lets see my current project without battery, oil or gas is roughly 330lbs, measured the same as we did at Donnies` last yr. Mind you it`s not really period correct other than the s3 frame and h1 motor. I built this monster as light as I could, using alum and fibre glass in body components, custom dash with 2 in 1 clocks, that saved about 5 lbs, mono shock sssarm, `94 cbr600r front end and alum mags. I just don`t know where else I could loose 30+ lbs. Mind you it`s around 30lbs lighter than my s2a. I think it`d be tough achieving a 300lb goal, unless maybe using period small alum tank, swingarm and stripping the frame of all non essentials, run without battery, run tach only, no signals, smallish fibre glass/or plywood 1 up seat, alum race rims, no side covers, and on and on, so thats about 5grand so far. I`m not saying it can`t be done, would just take a lot of planing a deep-ish pockets. Cheers

the h1 has crappy transfers...if you're going for light weight, I think you could really build a nice s bike. This is a h1 base spacer on a s2 cylinder...you can see the s2 are pretty much the same size
