I think it's an engine ground which runs from the engine case to the frame...I don't recall exactly where, but I've seen it over by the chain cover

I think it's an engine ground which runs from the engine case to the frame...I don't recall exactly where, but I've seen it over by the chain cover +1 on that one. I have the same wire on my KH400. It attaches to one of the top rear engine mount bolts on the left side of the engine and the other end attaches between the frame and the sprocket cover.

Thanks a lot guys. Its been a hard old slog for a few years. Being this picky is not in my nature. This bike is as close to brand new as I think you can reasonably get.
The only things I have left are to put on the center stand spring (thats a very stiff spring) and to get the right side center spring damper in the muffler. I've busted two NOS rubber dampers so far, they just don't want to go in that hole without tearing. I've got one soaking in silicone spray for over a week now, and I'll boil it and try again.

One tip I've used for that: bend the spring and put a penny between each coil. Bend it back the other way and put in more pennies... voila, the spring should fit with no bloodied knuckles.

Thanks!
I tried the penny trick, worked a charm. So it's just the small center stand damper and the petcock rebuild kit and she's all done. Coming soon to an eBay near you!
