Who Has all the 70's Road Racing photo's?
Get out the old photo albums and post your pictures. Here's one I found on a website. It looks like Steve Bond posted it. Some of you guys know Derek who was a Manley's Kawasaki rider.BONDO Wrote: This is the first turn at Sanair, east of Montreal sometime during the 1975 season. It's the Expert Open production race and I'm on bike number 8, my 1972 H2 Kawasaki 750 triple. Just behind me is a guy who's name escapes me on a Z1 and bike number 66 is Derek Mitchell, Just over Derek's shoulder is Jim Graham and the last bike in the pic is number 30, the late Wally Batchelor. Everyone but the guy on the Z1 is on Kawi 750 triples - Wally and Derek are on 74 or 75 models but my 72 was faster! My Brother took this shot at Mosport. Here's a great shot of Chris Manley (#11) from back in the day on the H2R by Bill Petro.
(Bill usually has pictures on display at the Toronto Motorcycle Show coming up this weekend.)

This has to be one of the all time greatest racing photos ever taken. Hats off to Bill for having the balls to sit backwards on a bike and snap a few shots! [/quote]

Thanks Paul. Great pictures of Derek. They told me some of the guys would smash the pipes in with a hammer so they wouldn't hit the pavement. I don't actually know if that's true. Got any more from back in the day?
I'm hoping Brad, Rick and some of the other VRRA guys may have some old pictures to post. There was lots of camera's at the track back in the 70's.

The number 100 was always reserved & associated with Dunlop. When I joined the VRRA 5 years ago I was given a choice of available numbers. The new registry lady by mistake included the# 100 in my list.I took the number & still use it today.Jim Allen was the Canadian National champ in 1973 & 1977.His first race was at Daytona on Dunlop tires & he went on to work for Dunlop for years. His number was 100 & that is why they would not give it out. Here is a pic of Mosport 1973.He at the far right.

Must be Yvonne, that was his number. Brad Sure is Brad. You may remember, he went to the Dark Side that season. (Yamaha!) It was the only time in his carrier that I ever heard of him running a road race on a bike other than a Kawasaki. I remember us talking. It was all the rage, all about - Is it the bike , or the rider. The Tz's were winning all the races and it was a shot in the arm for Kawasaki.

Actually I believe he started with Yamaha. He use to ride for Deeley out west.He was the first to clock over 150 mph at Daytona. He did that on a Tr2 350 Yamaha in 68 or 69 I think. Before that we use to watch him snowmobile race.He was to wild & got kicked out of that.

I did a quick scan at Wiki on him... It sounds like he got his start with ice racing and flat track. They mentioned there he used hockey shin pads for dragging his knee instead of the foot as most sane people do! Lol Interesting to me because I was a huge fan of Michel Mercier for the same reason. I remember him riding a GPZ in 750 production before he was bumped up to super bike.. Correct me I'd I'm wrong on the GPZ though, I was only 12-14 years old at the time.

I believe those pictures were taken in 1978 at Mosport. This is one that I think was taken in 1976 or 77.
Probably on a KR750 or the H2r. Brad, Do you know if he actually had a liquid Kr750?

I'm not sure about the GPZ750.I know by that time Lang & MacMurter, were riding for Kawasaki. He was one of the riders for the Z1 setting the street stock 24 hour endurance when it was first introduced.
