OK. So I rode a 400...me likey. Get home determined to get the old basket case S3 together. The motor is stuck, but I got 2 of 3 jugs off. The 3rd is now half way off. It's not stuck to the studs...just the rings...but it's wicked stuck. It's hard to beat on too, because ot moves all over. So far the 2 pistons I can see look good, the 2 cylinders look excellent. Rings are stuck in grooves so I guess they won't be salvageable. But this last cylinder...it looks like maybe a ring broke, and I can't move it up or down. I want to save the piston because they're so hard to find.

are the rings stuck in transfer or the intake port

I think so! I can't see the port from above, or feel it from below. What can I do?

I'm thinking the perfect solution is to swap my 400 for your 750... then you don't need to take the cylinders off! ;D ;D ;D I've heard of people tapping the head bolt counter bores and bolting a jack plate on top of the cylinders... Have you tried that method? Here is a link to mraxl's website kawtriple.com/mraxl/stuckcyl.html

Haven't tried it because it seems drastic...but I'm running out of options.

How about using coke.... My buddy and I unseized a field car in high school by pouring coke down the cylinders... ;D Nasty stuff that coke.

Oh that coke! Because I'm considering the other stuff I found a device on the net...you make a hole through a sparkplug and weld a grease fitting onto the body. Then you install this "plug" attach your grease gun, and start squeezing. Who knows?

The pressure might strip the threads... Use a long reach plug and a nut nut on the inside for safety sake.

if its not rings then try putting some var sol or diesel in the cylinder and heat the out side of the cylinder with a propane torch. iv seen this done on cylinders that where rusted so bad that you would never have thought it would have come off tape on the top of the piston to brake it loose and then keep adding var sol diesel as needed.

if your looking to save the piston do you have a cylinder to replace that one if you do just cut the cylinder from the top to the piston between th transfer ports and then tap two chisels into the slot you have cut and tap them in until the cylinder cracks in half or until the piston loosens up enough to remove it very drastic but you will save the piston

Since I have the cylinder up at least an inch from the case, is it possible to remove the studs? I'm thinking if the studs come out, I can twist the jug off. How do the studs come out? Are they reverse thread? Or normal? Do I have to saw them off and deal with the stumps later? I'm convinced that you're right about the rings being stuck since I moved it this far up without too much trouble and now it won't go up or down. But I think I could twist the little mother off if the studs weren't there. Merde!

They are a right hand thread.

So if one managed to get hold of it with vice grips...he might be able to take it out?

You could certainly give it a shot with vise grips... or as an alternative, you could drill and tap an extra head bolt (if you have one) to accept a locking screw and remove them that way.
If you have an inch of space under the barel, you should be able to rig up a gizmo to jack screw it off... or use a pully puller if you have one large enough.

Yeh, I had various c-clamps in there yesterday with wood blocks etc. A real 3 ring circus.. I heard a lot of creaking...and nothing moves. I'm gonna try to get the studs out, and twist the bugger off.
