Corroded needle jets can be a total bear to remove, and sometimes they never come out. So it may take some persuasion. And the pin is why I grind a flat on a old jet, to clear the pin. Make sure you remove the washer under the jet. Use a wood dowel if you don't have an old jet.

As Ja-moo said they can be a pain, mine were nasty, I basically soaked all three carbs in carb cleaner over nite and with a little gentle persuasion, they eventually came out. Remember, its not a race, haste with these old girls usually ends up costing more, than needs to be spent.

Remember, its not a race, haste with these old girls usually ends up costing more, than needs to be spent. I got the needle jets out. One of the pins came out though, I pushed it back in and am hoping it will stay. Any thoughts? pulled the pipes and mufflers off While the carbs were soaking, removed and cleaned the baffles. The left one(header pipe) dripped a little gas and oil. the middle one was rusty and the right one dripped a small amount of oil. I'm going to re-assemble the carbs now. will the needle jet be easy to get back in? Any tips?

So I've cleaned the carbs thoroughly and I cleaned out the baffles in the mufflers, re-torqued the bolts at the head cylinder and started her up. Most of the same only now it only starts with full choke and even then it eventually stalls out. If I try to give it gas it gargles and stalls. I'm going to check the plugs and replace the fuel the stuff in the tank is pretty old. Any thoughts?

Make sure you have your slides are in correctly , angled side of slide facing the air cleaner... Did you set float height ?

Good call Johnny. The only thing I can add is there is a small hole on the bottom of the bore, motor side that could be clogged, remove the pilot and confirm it's clear.

I meant bottom side of the inside of the bore, motor side. There is a small 1/32" hole that runs down to the pilot.

The "bore" is the big hole through the carb. If you look right in front of the slide, there is a little hole in the bottom. You can shoot carb cleaner in the pilot and it should come out the hole.
