Bikes with high handlebars tend to have clogged baffles
It's funny I've always preferred low low bars even clip-ons but I actually kinda like this look.
Yes !! It is cool, The bike looks in nice shape, Was it sitting a long time before you got it?

On all 3 S2a's I have worked on they ALL required lowering the needle by moving the clip to the 2 notch to clean it up. These seem to wear more than the others. Me..I would put NEW needle and jets in. Why put worn out parts back in? here's Ivans web site. My S2A is getting a set. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/s3.htmAre not s3`s a little different to s2`s, carb size and jets, it seems to me an s3 kit into an s2 carb would make things richer? I have as you changed the needle position on my s2a with good results but there is still issues in the btm end, mid and wide open seem OK, but off the line still sucks. I may give Ivans a call to see what their views on the s2`s are, doesn`t look like they have done any work ups on the the s2`s, as the s3 seems to be the bike of choice when it comes to the smaller triples. Thanx for posting the link.

If you add up all the components in Ivan's kit, it doesn't seem to be that far off the mark as amazing as it sounds! The skeptic in me believes there is no such thing as a magic needle that will improve performance across the board as I believe the airbox, pipes and porting are going to dictate different fuel curve requirements if you want to be fussy about it. In the end though if I didn't have any brass for my carbs, it would seem to be a good investment. With that said, I never had any issues getting my 400 dialled in with stock components.

No have not changed to 22.5 pilots, I was hesitant thinking going from 25s would possiby cause too lean issue in that circut? But for the price that'l be next on the to do list.

No rust on the spokes and rims. everything Looks good but there a few photos I'l post this weekend that will make you go wtf

I generally change the pilots leaner if you can't get rid of "just off idle" 4 stroking while cruising by turning air screws out 2 turns, I generally turn the air screws into 1 full turn from lock and go from there with the new pilots.

What you say is true about setting to highest idle, I was just saying that to be the correct pilot size, the highest idle should happen between say 1 to 2 turns out from lock. In my case, swapping to the next smaller pilot then turning in the air screws 1 full turn effectively nets the same idle.

Blk Mastiff, sorry for high jacking your thread, but look at it as learning curve. Ive ordered 22.5s I think it will help, I can't loose the rich symtoms with the factory 25s. If this doesn't work, Im not sure where to go from there.

I'm sure it will solve your rich problems... Double check what needle jets are in there while you have them apart, just to make sure the PO wasn't messing around.

Ok so last summer when I got the bike. First thing on my list was take out the carbs and clean them. So I did, the problem is that I missed the pilot and pilot jet and then I stuck it all in and boiled the pilot and jet in the bodies of all three carbs. So ahead to the future when I started the bike it was hard to keep running even with the starter fully engaged but at the same time it was revving nicely with some gas.
Question: 1 have a recked the pilot and pilot jet? 2 is there a way to remove the needle jet?
