OK, cool I learned something today I did not know, but the bike gets finished first, my mechanic don`t care if the brake squeals or not, as long as it put pressure on the disc and the light lights up. But either way I won`t ride any bike I don`t feel safe or confident about, so if these braking systems are crap then it will be replaced. What about the rear drum, any issues with it? Got love it when you can draw off a wealth of knowledge up front instead trial and error! thanx guys. RP

Somewhere on the board there is a thread I started the day I had to do my first panic stop on my 400, that day I realized that the stock brakes do not stop even close to what I wanted. The stock rear brake works fine, in fact it almost cost me a high side when the front failed to slow me down fast enough. I parked the bike until I got the EX caliper installed. There is another thread I posted a couple months later when I was cut off from a lady making a left in front of me, the new brake saved my bacon that day! A new front brake is probably your cheapest performance upgrade you can make! I use the EX caliper with stock rotor and a 1/2" master cylinder.... You can stop very quickly, in fact, I'm probably the only limitation from the bike being able to do stoppies. The master cylinder is a Nissin unit, $60 on flea bay, the caliper can be found for about 1/2 that money.

Just got layed off for the winter so progress may be a little slow from this point on but, I have a set of wirges on the way(I know not the best but will allow me to get `er running at least), stock air box on it`s way, and still waiting on my front wheel. Since my last post I managed to get the rear end assembled, and drilled out the front rotor, simple pattern but effective. The rims are Sun dimple-less aluminum alloy with heavier gauge ss spokes and nipples, considerable weight savings over the near untrue-able steel-chrome factory rims. Cheers

Where did you find those?

I believe they use the same calliper on the 250 and 500, you will want to pay attention to whether it's a left or a right side. I personally went with a right because I prefer the calliper behind the wheel, I then flipped my forks to suit.
It isn't a direct bolt-on but with a conversion bracket that can be found on the resource sits, it's pretty straight forward.

So how about zr7 calipers, looks similar to the ex`s with out the bulky mounting bracket, will these and the a fore mentioned calipers work with the thick s rotors, or do they also have to be replaced? Or maybe just use the h series clam shells, they worked good as I recall.
