well what this feller wuz talking about wuz prospects for the engine to overpower the chassis are your stunting skills good enough to straighten her out again after she swaps ends? how much of a hair trigger do you want on your upside-down switch?

Some things need to be feared to be respected.... There is nothing to fear but fear itself! With the potential of your engine build you may want to source a slightly longer swingarm then the stock 400 swinger. Other then that it sounds killer! ;D ;D ;D

Agent H2 on the KTW board put an H2 engine in an S3 frame. He did have issues with the frame flexing. I think he resolved most of them. I was always of the mind set that kawasaki already had the H1 frame when the H2 was on the drawing board (albeit it was proposed to be a 650 at the beginning). They decided to engineer a new frame which was stronger, rather than stuff the 750 engine in (it made service easier too). I think some gussets might be in order, and would agree with using a longer, perhaps boxed, swingarm. Luckily Mr. Walms knows a ton about metal... kawasakitriplesworldwide.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=40164&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Andrew, don't listen to the naysayers! Gear it with 13/48 and really have some fun ;D

I suppose I should spool up the FEA software, but that will become a project in itself... All of a sudden, Fathers day seems like it's right around the corner. I planned to beef up the swingarm mount as per S3 Steve's suggestion.

I just read through Agent H2 on the KTW board and it seemed the main handling problem he had with his H2/400 was the tires. He also mentions needing new suspension to cope with the added weight. Anyone know what the weight of the 400, 500 & 750 engines are? Stiffer springs would be a start. Racetech offers spring kits for the H1D/E/F. www.race-tech.com/SubMenu.asp?cMenu=31&c=Yes&showPage=vintagerr

Initially, Agent H2's biggest problem was extended length shocks on the rear. With the added weight of the 750 and longer shocks it put too much weight bias on the front. Tires were also a factor.
My suggestion would be to replace the engine and THEN make suspension/tire mods as required to achieve desired results. Take it one step at a time.

Dale are running a stock 400 front end?
If so do you feel the front end dive a lot under braking?
I know my S3 seems to dive a lot but that may be the fact the spring are almost 35 years old.
I just looked at the weight difference between the H1 and the KH400, 27 lbs only! That complete bikes!! Man I thought the H1 would be much heavier.
I'm just wondering if a stiffer spring is necessary.

I know my S3 seems to dive a lot Might not have anything to do with the bike... I'm with Dale, let's get this motor in the frame first. It's going to LOOK good from the get-go anyway. Carry on walms.... ;D

My 400/500 is actually a KH400 rather than S3. The forks are stock KH and the frame is braced a little better than the S3. I'm happy with it, but I admit I'm not the best or most critical rider. I much prefer the 400 over the H for handling! The 500 just gives it a little more pep. To me, the weight difference is not noticeable..... Now a 750 might be a different story.
Agent H2 talked to me prior to his build. He said he had the option of going 500 or 750. I advised him to go 500 with stock suspension. He chose to do otherwise, which is ok, but I think if you asked him what he would do if he had it to do over he would opt for the 500.

Cool thread! A stoked up 500 is not much different than a 750, but being a bit smaller, the install should be smoother.

Thats what I did. I also added some gussets around the steering head.
