i GOT ALL THE WIRING DONE. tHE HARNESS HAD BEEN " CUSTOMIZED" WITH ALL REAR LIGHTS AND SIGNAL WIRES CUT OUT. IT TOOK HOURS BUT i GOT THE BARRELS OFF FINALLY. THE STUDS WERE RUSTED SO LOTS OF wd AND POUNDING. IT HAS STANDARD BORE AND I THOUGHT I COULD GET AWAY WITH A HONE AND NEW RINGS BUT THE BORES ARE TOO WORN SO IT IS NEW PISTONS AND 1ST OVERSIZE NOW. ORDERED PARTS TODAY. I DON'T KNOW WHY I WOULD THINK THAT I'D BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET AWAY WITH A HONE.
IT'S ONLY MONEY.....

Remember that a spring type hone does not correct a bore and shouldn’t be used, neither does a ball (plateau) type - you need to use a correct Sunnen mandrel with appropriate stones and run at 500-550 RPM drill speed Curtis

I just looked at it and measured with my Chinese vernier. I brought the cylinders to my bud at the machine shop and his more accurate measurement showed a bit beyond tolerances and a little ridge at the top. The shop does my honing and boring. He has an H2 btw.
He has done about 10 bores for me without a hitch.

Hey Dave. I went to look at what Was suppose to be a 69 today and turned out to be two 71’s. Which I brought home. Guess what ? One of them is wearing a scalloped tank.Guess what else? The same one has a 70 engine. Not sure if I’m going to sell the tank and engine yet but they won’t be cheep as I paid a good bucks for them. Just thought I would let you think about it.

Just some advice , kids. Try to get a complete bike project rather than a partial one. This has been very expensive and frustrating thinking I have everything and then finding that I am missing some little part. Or, some major one. Parts are getting more rare and thus, more expensive not to mention the high cost of shipping them.
If not for a couple friends from this board, it would have been much more expensive and way more frustrating.

I just had to see how I'd done. This is the first one where I did it all, paint , striping by Debbie, frame paint, engine rebuild, re-wired. Just waiting for a clutch cable and headlight to complete.

It's deja vu , all over again. Engine is out and I will check out the bottom end and fix up the kicker mechanism.
My own fault for being lazy and not doing it when I had it out over the winter and did the top end. I had to pass on a pair of Suzuki X6s because of time and space limitations so this is my project for the winter. Still got the RD400 to get running correctly but that is near the end . Maybe do a bit on the KH too. It has been great with absolutely no problems except for the little speedo incident in the spring which was cleared up with a new speedo drive and cable.

The nightmare continues. Hopefully, I wake up pretty soon. Couldn't split the cases. I had a gap but the crank was coming up with the lower case. Turns out that someone had glued the crank seals in to the case. I ended up having to take the cylinders off and lifting the crank out with the lower case. Then Debbie stood on the case and I lifted and it finally broke free. Now, I guess it's a trip to New Hamburg to see Jeff. Hopefully the crank is ok and just needs new seals.
By the way, the kick spring was not in the retainer as was suggested.
