So I'm trying to get jetting sorted out. Before I was running an early cap and rotor style ignition and had it pretty well dialed. 280 mains 12.5 pilots 6dh4 needles P-4 NJ 3.5 CA (ufo's)
I figured swapping to the kh500 style ignition plus Jim's ignition box would be an improvement on my old setup.
Couple test runs and it's dead flat at wfo. It seems weird but I think I need even larger mains. I installed some 300s just in time for it to rain for three days. Looking forward to testing them out, and getting back to that power band I remembered. Skye

You didn't say what carbs you were using but by the size of the mains, they are probably 34's (off an old sled) From what I see there your pilot is way to small should be ( & I'm just guessing now)at least 40.

Yes, you're correct. 34mm sled carbs. When I went to ufo'S I cut my pilot size in half per LC's recommendation.
Just tried 300 mains and it's no better. I guess I'll double check timing and do some plug chops.

Im sure LC's recommendation, like mine was just a starting point.Determine your pilot size first off your air screw. Brad
Just for reference I have 230 mains,50 pilot,2 1/2 slide,1 1/3 turns out,large round k&n filters and a fair amount of porting.

Yea, you're right. It's clear my jetting is now way different. Time to start from the beginning.

If the bike ran well before changing the ignition it would seem this is where the issue will be. Ignition timing plays a huge part in the jetting setup. As such be sure the timing is still at 25 degrees as strobed at 4000 rpms.
Setting up the timing on the kh system is a litte confusing as it fires a very long time before the rotor prongs line up with the two pickups. Also know the two pickups are actually different. There is an N pickup and an S pickup.
Also be sure you still have proper fuel flow to the carbs and proper venting of the fuel tank.

I was kinda under the same assumption, it used to run great. I double checked timing is at 25 deg then rotated to the second mark and made sure the trailing edge of the rotor tangs was just at the embossed line. Air gap at .014 on both. I'll double check pickups orientation as I had then both off. I'm still running resistor 5k caps. I also am using ebay coils the two wire style. The bike runs great all the way up to top. Then it doesn't do much, I've jumped around on main jetting with little noticeable change. I'll strobe it tomorrow hopefully something jumps out at me.
