chamfer the big holes-they wanna crack at the sharp edges The only reason a shift drum will crack is from shift fork/gear damage

Thanks guys. I had heard about removing the sharp edges if any from the holes. However, the chamfered pin slots seemed unusual to me. I had not seen or heard of that before. I am not planning to use it.

Stress riser are always on sharp edges, and cast iron is bad about being brittle. So yes, all sharp edges should be removed. i think kawi found that out and changed finishing accordingly.

The tank is a little on the rougher side. And the tail sections too. But they could be a lot worse.Once they are all stripped clean we will treat the bare metal with a metal prep and conditioner and the apply a zinc base epoxy primer and apply sanding primers after that. Work from there. Going to clean the inside of the tank before doing that.See what they look like when completed.

There is no doubt I have given Duane and Keith a good challenge here given the rough shape of the parts I brought them, particularly that tank! I think these parts are going to look amazing when the work is done. I am very happy they agreed to take on this work.

Looking good Dave - who did you use for the chrome? After having no luck finding a chrome shop in this part of the country, I sent an H2A complete gas cap assembly to Alberta Plating in Calgary. (Just found them on the web). The cap I sent was in really rough shape - pot metal with scapes and lots of pitting. It cost about $100 for the work but it was in excellent condition when I got it back. I am using it now on my rider. So I have sent three more batches to them in the last couple of years and everything has come back great ... the service turnaround may take 6 to 8 weeks. Below is a link to their website with details on how to ship. Anthony the GM is very good to deal with .... note: you have to consider shipping costs, but there is no provincial sales tax and also, no estimates until he has the parts to examine. www.albertaplating.com/shipping/index.html

Dave is a great guy to work with. And his current project is fun to be involved in.He is doing a spectacular job on it.We are also working on another set of body panels for our buddy Eric's 1972 H2 750 that we are doing a complete resto mod on.We are in the process of completing the engine build for it.I will post some picture/info in another thread.I don't want them to Hi Jack this thread.Dave's 750 is going to be a really nice bike.It sure would be great if it be possible to bring BOTH 750'S to the vintage bike show in Ormstown this summer. But as they say, best to take the time to do it right. And whey they are ready when they are ready.

The body set parts restoration is complete. I picked the set up from Keith and Duane @ Gran Sport yesterday. The parts I gave them were in very rough shape. Their attention to detail and getting things right is truly impressive and the results are amazing. Very happy ! Thanks guys!
