Hello guys, I have decided on a new project. I have been gathering parts to build an H2 motor. Sourced from many places (Thanks again Givr for the transmission). I did a lot of "watching" on the rebuild of my current motor last winter but now I want to do it myself (with your help please!). I don't have a frame to mount the motor in yet but I can look for something as I move along. I am sure you guys would have plenty of ideas. Here are the engine case I have started with. they cleaned up pretty well I would like to get these case inspected for cracks and problems and repairs and then media blasted. Can you give me some suggestions on who can do this work? I am in Ottawa area. But going to Toronto or Montreal is no issue as I have the time. I will post some picture of the cylinders and the heads next. I also need a similar service for them. Cheers, Dave

Here is a picture the RH cylinder intake port. No sure what to think about this brown "wear spots. There is a rough edge where they end. Wondering what a fix would be for this? The other cylinders have the same issue.

Did they paint the inside of the port? Looks to be the same texture of black that is on the fins??? If so it's probably burnt paint??

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Well, I can say it s not dirt. I have cleaned them already. The cylinder fins are painted black. I am going to remove that black paint. Maybe the runners were painted too? Unfortunately I can't confirm that. It seems that the silver "stuff" has worn away and exposed the brown coloured surface.
Thanks, Dave

Good point! In that case, some paint stripper is in order.

The port is all aluminum. The whole cyl is cast aluminum. only the sleeve is steel. there is nothing brown underneath it. Its most likely paint as sf alluded.

Put it in a 500 frame! Drops right in, they are plentiful, and it's a better frame to boot!

Thanks for the advice guys. Both intake and exhaust ports had a significant amount of hardened gas and carbon sludge mix which I was able to remove with paint stripper and a lot of elbow effort. Got a glass bead baster from Princess Auto to work with my compressor and i got the cheap black paint off the cylinders in my back yard. The sleeves have some rust so next is to have them bored 1st oversize (71.5mm). These are type 1 cylinders from a 72 H2.

The "type" is just the casting manufacturer, not a version.

They appears to be the H2 cylinders from mid 72 troughout the 73 with the teardrop cut-out. A much better design for reliability than the early square type.
And aylor is correct: I have both square cut TP2 AND TP1 cylinders, and also both teardropped TP1 AND TP2 cylinders, also both TP2 AND TP3 B/C cylinders.

It is absolutly the best way to clean aluminum. No other process compares.
