Hello Guys I've heard my wife say this phrase "Baby Steps". Well I guess this is baby steps in the restoring sense. I bought a battery to see if the lights and other stuff work. Step 1 complete !! lol

For peace of mind... I would still pull each connection apart, clean it, and dialectical grease each one. Nothing worse then getting 5 km from home and having a connection go crappy

Hello Guys I just removed and drained the 2 stroke oil out of the tank it was still clean. Its been in there since 82. In the photo you can see as a younger guy I didn't care about getting some dirt in the tank. What do you guys suggest for a new oil filter. I will remove the old filter screen and connect something on the line. Also should I clean the tank in a varsol bath or just soap and water. Awaiting your reply. Thanks Guys!!

Why is the oil red? Should be blue That would make me nervous, all the dirt. An inline filter or that screen will plug up quickly and seize the engine if not attended to now. Clean the tank really well with varsol or diesel fuel first. I'd wash a handful of gravel and dump it in too, then shake the hell out of it to knock the hardened dirt loose. Wash the stones clean and repeat several times rinsing between with clean varsol. Replace the lines as well. 2 stroke sleds run an inline filter, Royal Distributing carries these at about 3 bucks each. A sintered bronze filter will work for oil too, Andre at Repro Decals has nice ones. I see Toro lawn mowers run a similar bronze filter as well. You could order one from a dealer near you. Put a new O-Ring in the bottom cap/spigot. Don't over tighten it or the tip of the cap will spilt and leak.

Back in the early 80's a lot of ran Big Red injector oil, that could explain the red colour. As mention above, clean the tank and outlet screen/filter real well and you should be good. Nice bike by the way, rare to have them in origal condition like that.

Hello Guys when I bought the bike back in 78 the 2 stroke oil was red. When I drained the oil out of the tank in a clean container there was no particles in the old oil just on the screen. Thanks for tips. I guess the oil is blue these days. lol Trevor

I'am going shopping for 2 stroke oil and transmission oil. Any suggestion on products favourites.

I agree with the others about a thorough tank clean (I like gasoline or diesel). The consensus for 2 stroke oil is "dino" based (as opposed to synthetic) has some upside in that it does not have chemical components that hold moisture which could devastate your bearings if left for a long time...if you go this route, Castrol is popular but is smells like burning tires..yamalube is used by lots of us as well. I think full synthetic smokes less and lubricates extremely well - not withstanding the propensity to trap water molecules. For synthetic, I like Amsoil products. transmission oil debates are common too - most here prefer Bel-ray 75W Gear Saver. Others have had success with the Honda 2 stroke wet clutch brand...but it's harder to find (Honda shop that sells dirt bikes should have it).
Good luck!

Hello I started removing the carbs and are trying to protect the air inlet pipes from cracking up I think I should heat them up a bit with a hair dryer to make them a little more flexible. Does that pipe disconnect from the air box it should. lol

ya, but don`t, at that age they`d probably break. once you get the air box out with the pipes attached, if you can, you`ll see what I mean.

Thanks Shiloh. I think I will remove the battery box and I should be able to push the air box back far enough to take the carbs off.
