Got the pipe!! Sweet little unit. Fit's in a shoe box right now!! Thanks Walms!! Gotta find me a capable welder. Anyone know of one? Found the rough running issue. Bad ignition components. Walms loaned me an extra set of points and a coil he had kickin' around his garage attic. Zoom, zoom!! The G3 is off to Mid-Ohio!! In the back of the F-150 of course!

Awesome to hear the iggy parts got you going Drewski! Enjoy mid Ohio!!! Thanks Andrew! Here's an updated pic. Don't have any clubmans that fit, so we put flatbars on it and stripped the turn signals. Instant "cafe racer"!! Now to go terrorize the infield at Mid-Ohio!!

So, we're back from Mid-Ohio safe and sound. It was my first real opportunity to ride the G3 for more that a few hundred yards at a time. I still didn't get out on the streets to "see what she'll do", but I rode it all around the infield at M-O on Friday. The rains made a mess of things on Saturday, so I didn't take it out of the back of the truck. I think I might ride it home from the shop tomorrow night and ride it to work for a couple of days. The weather's supposed to be pretty good on Wednesday and Thursday I think. Here it is in the back of the F-150:

While Walms is "blaspheming" by planning a (cough, cough) "Honda" Project, I'm contemplating an upgrade in power for a "Super Mini Single" myself. Not on the same scale as a 250/500 class single, but fairly potent none-the-less. Those of you that know me are well aware of my twisted thinking regarding old bikes with newer suspensions, wheels, brakes and the like. Hence, the KZZXR and the Mongrel. I've toyed with the idea of an old Triple in a modern frame as well. That one never came to fruition, but it was fun to plan and scheme about the relative merits of such a project. Now the thought, is to take a somewhat upgraded "old" frame and slot a "new" engine in it. As always, I'd be keeping it "in the Big K family"! The thought is to yank the G3 engine and replace it with a much more modern KX125 engine. Now, I don't know much about these units, so feel free to fire away with comments, flaming darts or even words of encouragement! All are welcome!! My "quick and dirty" attempt at research tells me the kx125 was redesigned for 2003 and is at that point, a pretty competitive design. Please... weigh in with your suggestions. Bear in mind of course that this is a "project for the future". I'm not jumping into this any time soon. There are other projects ahead of this one, including the finishing of the G3 and the h1/750 for Seaglider. I enjoy the process as much as the project itself... that's why I introduce this concept to you now!

My only suggestion is you sell the KH100 motor to me when the time comes... A KX125 would be cool in there!!!

It's worth a shot.
The more I think about it, the more I will be going milder than I first wanted to on my G3. It was a long time ago, but I bought a new G31M cylinder and piston for my G5 from the dealer. I cut the stock rotary valve and slipped the cylinder on with the stock head and A Wirges or Hooker pipe. Even with the stock carb it was a bit uncontrollable, when it "hit" all hell would break loose, along with the rear knobby!....lol. Which was kind of fun in the dirt for a young kid, but now with what I want is a fun fast cafe racer, I don't think it's such a good idea. I know I wasn't making close to the 18HP of the G31M, and it was still very fast.
I'm thinking a modern 125 would be pretty hard to control on the street, especially coming out of corners, but hey, it never hurts to try, at least we hope it doesn't hurt......lol.
