I have been to a local meet today and got talking to a guy who used to live in canada and raced a h1r for the dealer in vancouver.I think the dealer was called corkan kawasaki???The guys name was Peter Seddon and has lived back in england for the last 20 years but plans to see out his final days back in canada. His knowledge about these bikes was encylopaedic and like the best he did not shout out loud about his exploits but when asked he kept us captivated for about an hour with the stories of his racing exploits.I thought i would share this with you guys and wondered if you could fill in some gaps with regards this dealer and maybe even peter himself.
All the best
Adrian

Hey pipe welder, Ever meet up with a fellow named John Metcalf? He worked for Manley's years back and has owned Owen Sound Motor Sports (on Hwy 21 at Jackson) since around 1974. I ask because in 1974 I broke a clutch cable on the H1 at Sauble beach May 24. His shop actually open that saturday and had a cable in stock!
Anyways, I saw a real H1R there at the time ( big drum brake, fairing, dry clutch and all). I spoke to Metcalf for the first time since '74 at his shop this last fall. He said that bike was built up out of factory parts. It was sold many years back to a racer used to 4 strokes and was subsequently offer for sale back to Metcalf, who declined.
I wonder what became of that bike?

It would be common sense to think if someone here knew of the man they would reply.right? But to read Kas750's rant and verbal abuse of us Canadians on the other board ...Well ...Guess I'm to polite to say what I'm thinking...

Well, some people have to open their mouth and speak to reveal their ignorance and others just type with their fingers!! Sad really.

Chris said John is Garry's brother, Garry was the service manager at Manleys after Pat Chambers. Both work for manleys. I think Garry put together the h1r out of spare parts.not a real factory h1r. Don't know where the bike is. It wouldn't suprise me if Bar Hoginson has it.

Interesting piece of history. Yes, as said above it was assembled out of parts but did have all the neat H1r bits as I recall (big drum brake, dry clutch, 35mm carbs etc.) Although the bike was assembled outside the factory if it has a serial number stamped into the frame I'll bet it would still be worth huge $$$$. Thanks for the follow up J

I Might know where that H1R is, a guy in Oakville bought some parts from me and claims to own an original H1R he has quite a collection of early kawasaki's.
He offered to show me the collection but i need the time to go see it..
