Thank you Mr walms. Once again....a hammer was key!! As we used to call them, a "Japanese Persuader"

Got my tranny bearings......the 6205 NX3 bearings that were on it have been replaced with 6205 NRC3.CORRECTION. NTHIS IS NOT THE RIGHT BEARING. The 6005 bearing is still available.

My 6005 bearing is basically a sled bearing. The bearing guy told me just to pop off the side rubber seals and it is the same bearing. (Tranny)
Question is.....the bearing is packed with grease and the original bearing was not. Do I clean all the grease out of the bearing or leave it in and install as is.
Thanks

I would think you should wash out all the grease, but someone more qualified should chime in

I would wash them out before instillation

Wash the bearing with kerosine, it will leave a oily film on the bearing for rust protection unlike solvents.

I washed the bearing out and am not happy with it. It is not very smooth and has a lot of play in it unlike the bearing on the Tranny right now. The bearing was smooth with all the grease packed in it but real sloppy now. I will source another bearing before I put that one on my transmission.

What brand of bearing? Fwiw, a single ball bearing will be somewhat loose on its own.

Agreed - it’s not uncommon to have “huge” amount of axial play on a bearing sitting static. What brand is it

Would heat and friction take up the slack and essentially tighten up the tolerance?

If I recall - bearings have a “heat tolerance “ manufactured into them. Walms deals more on bearings than I do. But you also need to remember that a bearing sitting static will have an axial tolerance - and bearings are designed to have certain tolerances depending on applications-
