Finally got around to bringing my 75 H1 500 to the drag strip TODAY.Should have waited till the end of the season when they have the "test & tune" days.I really wish I had waited till then.It was PACKED.Too many cars.Couldn't get in but a few runs. And no time to make adjustments on the bike.It was just way too busy at the track. On a test and tune day you can get as many passes as you want, and relax and make any tuning and adjustments you want in betwen. On a day like today you can't be in the middle of doing something when they call the bikes up to run.Couldn't launch the bike properly at all, and there was no time to try and set it up.It wanted to go sky high and spinning the rear tire quite badly.Even with tire pressure changes. There was no way you could hit it hard in first gear coming out of the hole. And to some degree in second gear.Thinking about investing in a SLICK. Any one want to take a guess as to what the bike ran ET/MPH ? Having stock factory pistons, stock 28 MM Carbs and silenced DENCO chambers ? Keep in mind you could not launch the bike well, couldn't give it full throttle, and the back tire was spinning.

Thanks.Let's just for the fun of it see if we can get a few more folks to try and nail it ? I will say that I am very happy with how the bike ran.And did learn something about the combo going to the track.Any one else want to give it a try ?

Some very interesting guessing being put out there.Thanks.I won't hold off much longer. Not going to get 122 MPH with 28 MM carbs LOL.That is one thing I realised about testing the combo. The 28 MM carbs are choking off the top end.Hitting a wall. The combo needs bigger carbs.I also realised something about the combo that is really hurting the bikes performance the way it is.That I am going to change real quick.More on that a bit later. We had a wheelie bar on the bike and the bike kept hitting the bar then unloading and spinning the tires and the bike was coming up a number of times and hitting the bar in first and second gear.It kept wanting to wheelie and spinning the tires in first and second. And it's a new Battlak tire. Not much contact patch on it.If we had more time we could have adjusted the wheelie bar to help that. But the ONLY way to get the bike to hook up and be consistent at all,we will have to put a SLICK on it.Like I said you can't hit it hard at all in first and second gear. You have to feather it out or let off and then get back on it.The bike is making power and I am happy with the way it is running. It's only the FIRST time out since engine broken in.Someone is already getting close on the guess. In part.

The reason I jokingly posted above is I know someone with a slip from the drag strip that says he did 12.65/122 on a stock H1 about 45 years ago. I think he weighed about 120 lbs at the time. Whether or not he had a tailwind is disputed by some.

I get the joke Jim !! LOL . You mean like the old "magazine" road tests on the H1 500 ? Where they "prepped" the bike and put a "professional" 120 LBS driver on the bike I seem to recall reading all the old Cycle mag road tests on the 1974/75 H1 500, they got them to run mid 13'S ET @ 97 MPH.And that was on a good day ? Any more willing particpants in the ET/MPH guessing game before the drum roll and the realistic track results ?

In 1969 in a somewhat theatrical live demonstration, Kawasaki technicians uncrated and assembled a brand new 3 cylinder H1 2 stroke 500cc bike, at Lion’s Drag strip in southern California. The press watched with baited breath as fluids were added and with a prod of the kicker, the beast crackled to life. Tony Nicosia piloted the machine to a 12.96 1/4 mile at over 100MPH and the 500 triple was officially the fastest production motorcycle on the planet.

I get the joke Jim !! LOL . You mean like the old "magazine" road tests on the H1 500 ? No, I said "jokingly" because I figured you probably hadn't made that time/speed, but one of the regulars from *way* back on the US board really did it. He was a dealer, and ran it on a new stock H1 as I remember, but even with the paperwork, he gets a lot of disbelievers.

Jim I doubt I will ever run that kind of MPH @ 122 in the 1/4 mile with a stock carb H1 ? That is an incredible and exceptionally high MPH for a 12:65 ET.Should be in the world book of records ? Especially for an H1 with 28 MM carbs. ALL of the bikes I saw at the drag stip today running mid 12'S had a MPH average in the 1/4 mile in the 102 -105 MPH Range. Some bikes are ringers.I recall back in the mid 70'S when I had my first H1 500.Three of my friends all bought 1976 Yamaha RD 400'S. They all ran different ETS/MPH in the same state of tune. There was one real ringer in the three and the guy with the slowest one was really upset. But that ringer wasn't light years ahead of the other two bikes.
