Can you helicoil the drain ? Is there enough meat there? The thing is pretty beat up there at the point of impact. There is solid thread further up beyond the broken portion. We decided to thread the bolt into the remaining threaded portion and epoxy the exposed portion of the bolt to the remaining case metal. Prior to that though, we drilled out the drain bolt, tapped a new thread for a plug and used a little plumbers tape on it to ensure it wouldn't leak. After a day of 'subdued' flogging on Saturday... success! No Leaks! Interesting question... The first thing to be noticed is how light and manoeuvrable it is around the shop. It feels tiny compared to everything else I have had around here in a while. Second is the loud exhaust note. It's a little much, but I'm getting used to it. Third is the throttle response. It's very sensitive!! Bumps and subtle movements have me blipping the throttle more than any other bike I've ridden. Again, I'm getting used to it. Fourth, the suspension is very taught. You feel every ripple in the pavement. This affects my throttle hand too! It's definitely a 'sport' bike in the way it feels! Fifth, it's super quick in term of it's handling on the road. It darts into corners instantly! I'm still getting used to it, but so far it's been great! Sixth (and last!), it's got wicked power and acceleration... but we expected that, right?!?! Right from idle on up, it pulls and PULLS!! So, how do I like it? I like it a lot! For what it is, it's perfect for me! There's a big grin on my face most of the time I'm riding it!

There is something to the "liter" bikes, quite amazing machines...when you get used to it, look out Ya, I hear that!! It really causes me to have increased respect for the racers that flog these things to the limit on the track. They're amazing athletes IMO! I'm actually a pretty conservative rider. Seriously. I am. I have a great deal of respect for the danger and I don't like pain, so...

Nice ride home with you on Saturday Drew. The bike looks great and seems to be working fine.
Great project.

So you're not gonna take it to the track? Nah, I'd rather flog a 550 than just cruise around on this. There's no way I'm gonna trust myself to push this one to the outer edges!! (and that's exactly what would happen if I took it to the track!! )

You have more willpower than me Drewski... I'm sure I would get myself in trouble with one. The Bandit is bad enough for me and it's a scooter in comparison.

Haha! I have more than enough confidence in myself! I just have no desire to go that fast on the track. I'm quite happy to see what I can get out of the 550.

So, we found another oil leak. A cracked cover not far from the other repaired damage. The good news is the part is available from Kawasaki and it's on it's way. On another note, I'm moving into Phase 2 of the Project. I'm moving away from the "all Kawasaki Theme" in a similar fashion as the Mongrel. There's some work to be done before the seat will fit.

Cool looking tail section. Do you have a tz engine to throw in the frame as well?
