Made some more progress on the Ninja: I bought some 2008 zx6r calipers and master cylinder for a simple but serious front brake upgrade. Added braided steel lines front and rear as well. Modified/simplified the exhaust system to "clean" it up and added a Hindle shorty can to capture more of a 70's look. Bonus: Sounds wicked!! Integrated the seat pan and side panels into a one-piece unit. I'm really pleased with it! I'm not sure how the paint is gonna work, but we'll spray something on there this week. That's it for now. We have a bunch of wires to 'hide' under the fuel tank in order to clean up the 'look' on the left side as much as possible. Just about ready for the road.

It's really interesting in that it looks tiny without the fairing on it. The other thing is trying to hide all the crap that is normally just covered by the fairing. LOTS of wiring, cables, hoses, etc.

Less is more in more ways than one, it's also more work, and more money...but it'll be worth it

Well, speaking of delays... I found a little puddle of oil under the engine on Sunday afternoon. Not a good omen... Looked for and found the source on Monday. I don't know if you can see the oil drain plug in the first pic or not. It's roughly in the centre of the pic. Anyway, it looks like the bike must have been dropped on the right side. Right away after striping the fairing off, we saw that the pipe was dented but we missed the fact that the engine case around the drain plug was damaged and poorly repaired with JB Weld. You can see the JB Weld on the drain plug in the 2nd pic. He never even bothered to leave the 0-ring in place!! It looks like he just slapped it together to hold long enough to sell it. I'm the big loser in this case! So, we're into another repair before I can hit the road. The best repair means striping the engine down to weld it up. What a pain!! However, in the spirit of "backyard engineering", we have a couple of ideas to test that are quicker, simpler and hopefully just as secure. I'll let you know what we decide to do.

That sucks drewski.
Nothing like unforeseen issues. Might as well dig in and see what else you can find. Good thing you've got patience
