Most of you have seen this bike. When the Mongrel was "on the shelf" it was my go-to machine for all the KTC events. I breathed a lifetimes worth of 2 stroke oil! Anyway, the back story is that I bought the '77 KZ1000 brand new in September of 1977. I rode the wheels off it until about 1985. Parked it because money was tight and the kids were a priority. 20 years later, the kids are done school and off on their own and the KayZed was dragged out of the garage and the re-birth began. Here it is back in the 80's: The first round of mods: On the road again: The next series of mods... ... and the next: Got a couple more additions for this Spring too: Can't wait for the real Spring weather!

What is the setup on the dual headlamps?
And how do you like your Simpson helmet

What is the setup on the dual headlamps? And how do you like your Simpson helmet Well, the dual projector beams were great, but really didn't fit the overall "look" of the bike. They were VERY bright, that's a fact. One of them got a little scuffed when I had a minor get-off. I gave them to Pipewelder and hung a stock-looking round headlight on there instead. It brightens up the night just fine and I like the look better. The Simpson hurts to wear it. I've had a couple and they just don't fit me right. It's WAY noisier than my Arai too. I really just keep it for show.

I think the dual beam looked good, however I am slightly biased myself.

This was always one of my fav's.
The Custom made Lang Hindle pipe was a big improvement and it was the kick start as the first KZ vintage pipe to go out of the shop on a street bike.

All comments and suggestions are gratefully recieved, filed and totally disregarded so I can do what I want. I should have the KayZed back on the road this Spring. Can't wait!

I have to admit after owning it all these years, it's still a thrill to just look at it. The Z1 was my "dream machine" as a teen and it was a dream come true to finally get my KayZed the way I wanted. Slight mods still happen from time to time but I guess the only thing left is to strip it down to the bare frame and finish it properly. That and build a "suitable" engine to propel it down the road.

Very cool bike for sure.Is the motor pretty stock? I see a front fork indent in the tank. Was that from your little get off or on purpose for clearance? Brad
