Hi all. I'm starting an S2 project. I have lots of questions.
My first experience with Kawy triples was back in the early 80's. Dad bought a 250. While he was at work I learned to start it and ride it. I was around 13 or 14. We had a farm with lots of space. I could not touch the ground well. So would start it on the center stand. Put it in gear. Rock it off the stand and drop the clutch. Sometimes I got going, sometimes not. Stopping was a real challenge because I had to remember to keep the clutch in and shut the motor off while balancing on one toe. That poor old bike suffered. When I was old enough to drive legally Mom insisted the bike go and I get a car. So we traded it of on a Beetle.
So for decades now I have been on the look out for another. The 350 I have found is a meadow muffin. Right in my price range ;-) Been a long time since it has seen the road. But the motor turns over, compression feels good. Tank is straight. I have fixed up worse. I'm going to strip it down (already done) and split the case. And start back.
First question. I want to drop the body work off for painting. But side panels are cracked. I noticed some 500's have metal oil tanks/ side covers. Will these fit a 73' 350?
Thanks.

Hi oilman The side covers from a H1 will NOT fit the S2/S2A . I bought 2 NOS Covers for my 73 S2A from E Bay so I have 2 Blue Covers left over with emblems on them . Andre at www.reproductiondecals.com/default_frameset.html?content.html~main sells the emblems & Decals plus some other S2 stuff . Just ordered a seat cover from him. You can try Andy at vintagekawasaki.com/ as well ( Parts search numbers) Both GREAT guys to deal with Also check this site out . You can download the parts book for your S2/SA2 kawtriple.com/mraxl/Note ..Check your charging Voltage when your finished . Mine was reading 17.5 VLTS . Thinking it was a regulator issue I looked for a replacement ONLY to find out Kawasaki replaced the regulator in Aug 73 with one that produces 16 VLTS. ( S3) I would look for a regulator from a 74 on S3 . I got one for $20 Just waiting for the paint work on mine (This weekend) Ian

Hey thanks for the info.
One of the other members offered me covers too. Not sure who offered first. How much did you want and what condition are they in?
It might not be the correct color. But I'm thinking light (lime?) green on mine.

The colour would have been for 73 Candy Orange , Candy Blue or Candy Gold . Let me look at them to make sure there is no hidden cracks But I think there fine . If they're good maybe $50 , I'm not sure what they would sell for .

Ok thanks Ian.
I sorted all the bits into plastic bags n box's today. Have not opened the case yet. I need a work bench for that. I'm actually just moving. Or at least in the process. So finding a place to work on this is tough.
I spent an hour trying to remove the rear drum from the wheel. Ended up damaging the brake backing plate. Its amazing how well old brake shoes can bind up. I tried n tried to get it off without damaging it. But in the end I failed... Oh well.
Another problem is the registration. I ruffly know who and where now for the last 15 years or so. But not who had it registered last. Oh well. At the very least I have a lot of good parts here. Anyone on the forum have a basket case with a registration to sell?? I might be open to that idea to speed things up. Well patients is a virtue. I guess the previous owner will turn up eventually.

Lack of ownership is no problem . BikerDon has informed me you can NOW get a form from the MTO to fill out . You may need an affidavid from the seller with price of purchase .The form may tell you what you need . I haven't picked mine up yet as I need 2 for my H1's . Ian

I imagine each province is different. In BC the authority we have to deal with is ICBC. I can submit a form by mail to find out the last registered owner. I can do what I'm doing now and try and P.I around town to find the last registered owner. Anouther interesting route is as a property owner you can file an abandoned vehical claim. All in all finding the last owner myself is fastest. Other routes can take months if not years. I found two bikes online last night near here. But a few grand is what the're asking. I would rather spend that on new pipes and carbs. On the other hand the weather is perfect for riding right now......

What you need to do is put your picture on a photo hosting site, like photobucket. Or your own website if you have one. When composing a post use this code in your post. (img)http://your photobucket url site photo.jpg(/img) Use the square brackets though instead of the rounded ones I used to illustrate the point. Also if you press the little picture icon in the add tags it will do the same thing. Then you can post pretty much any size picture.
