This is a real H1RA frame.I don't have the original motor. At one time I bought an H2 motor for it but later changed my mind & decided to keep it a 500.I have since sold the H2 motor.I will be using the motor from my 71 500 race bike. The rest of the 71 was sold to Drewski for his ongoing project.Bear in mind this is not a restoration but a race bike.I will try to keep it true to form of the original style but must work around VRRA rules.

I want to keep the bike all kawasaki & period.Went to mount an early h1 swingarm & found the the bolt was a smaller size & longer than the original. After alot of time at the wreckers,a suitable one was found.Next I wanted to mount a 36mm disc front end.The triple tree dick was to short.I found that the Z1 dick was longer & a trip to the machine shop cut it down to size. Funny how FZ yamaha parts will fit right on a street bike but nothing from the street fits the race frame.Meanwhile the motor from my old race bike has been worked a bit.I did not want to go to full H1r specs (not very ridable)so I did a little porting, shaved the heads,2mm off the skirts, wisco pistons.

The 40 year old ignition on these early bikes are crap.Did not finish many races because of this. The old rotors like to separate & sheer the wires, after very few 10,000 runs. The Kh 400 electro nic is good but problematic low speed coils were still a problem until recently.Back in the day the H1r points system was usually replaced by the Krober.Pricey but very cool did away with the heavy rotor & the battery also by generating it's own spark.Wanting to be period,I located one.Back to my buddys place to machine a mounting plate & on she goes. Here is a pic.

This bike has a great history to.I went on RB's sight to try to find some info on it.So I give the serial number & I get this response back. Postby malc87 » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:35 pm
frame number 90102 engine 90132 was originally owned by passet of france? approx 68 H1R"s made and approx 42 H1R-A"S made. many bikes came with spare engines ? You're correct Malc Jean-Louis PASSET was the first owner but he sadly had a crash during 10 hours of Rouen race ( on a BMW 750) and lose his left hand, so the bike came back to french Kawasaki to go to Guignabodet team which managed french Kawasaki road race team at this time:this mean this bike should have driving by Christain LEON and Jean-François BALDE and was possibly the one drive on one 750 national race at Paul Ricard on 1978 by the great PE SAMIN, he finished 3d or 4th overall were only tZ 750s in front of him and all the TZ 350s were behind him (the race was on the big track with the very long straight, on the short one, thought he could have won!!!!)

Now you know the rest of the story.Back to work. The Krober has three ignition boxes that need to be mounted. The original h1r mounted some coils & the tac up on the fairing mount .I also picked up a krober tac & mounted the three boxes & tac up there also. Here is a pic.

The front rim is a flanged Borrani Wm3 laced to a kh400 front spool with a double disc.I will first try a single disc with a Lockheed caliper to keep the weight down. The bike weighs just under 300 lbs,so I am hoping one will do the job.Eventually I will respoke & buff the rim.In the rear I am using a DID 2.5 laced to an early 500 hub.I do have a 2.15 flanged borrani laced to a kh400 hub but will go with the wider rim for now.Avon race tires front & back.

I can't fit the fairing without the pipes.I ordered a set from Walms but life always gets in the way.Was short on cash so I had to cancel them till next winter.Do to the fact that the frame is wider on the h1r & the pipes all turn in towards the rails there were more issues.I had to cut all the fins off the outside of the two outer cylinders so I could swap them from side to side to make the pipes turn in.Just like they did back in the day when they outlawed the use of special cylinders & made everybody use street cylinders. With no money for Walms I was forced to rework my old Denco's to turn in for now.(new pipes next winter Walms)I won't show you a pic of the pipes...I am no welder.
