BTW, what mixture should I use for initial start-up? I was thinking maybe 40:1.. until the pump starts pumping and the neighbours are choking on smoke.... Personally, I would avoid premix. Just manually hold pump wide open at idle for a few minutes. You can't setup carbs while using premix so this eliminates the wait time to clear out premix and won't harm the engine.

I would through in a pint or 2 of 40 to 1 for the initial start and run it for a bit. Then your sure everything is getting lots of oil. Besides trying to hold the gas ,pump, choke and kicking all at once is to busy for me. Run it that way for a bit and fill er up.Then set the carbs and Bob’s your uncle. Looks real good.I want it back now. Brad

Yeah, I'll add to this, it sounds like a trick question... lol Before initial startup, you should be verifying your oil line check valves are functioning properly... If they are, then your lines are full, and there is no need to prime the lines or run pre-mix.

This is a new bike and engine. Nothing in the lines yet. Anyway, a new hurdle has presented itself so start up is delayed.

40:1 or 50:1 should be good. I use a wrench to hold the pump wide open. Start and open throttle then watch the oil flow.

Empty lines... the check valves should be good then! lol

What is the new hurdle delaying the start up? Brad

Don't want to talk about it... suffice to say, I am an idiot....

Finally, the first start up was today. Apparently, it is not good for running but, good for your right leg exercise, if you reverse the coil wiring between the left and right coils. There is a bit of carb leaking and the left side shift seal to be addressed but it is smoking.
I am now a semi-happy guy..... Oh yeah, today the sewer pipe that goes through the garage sprung a leak and we had a bit of a minor flood in the shop. Good news is that it is fixed now and, even better, we had to tear up the very dirty indoor/outdoor carpet in half the shop and I have ordered more of the rubber , easy to clean flooring. But, don't worry, the shop is still a mess... well, according to Debbie anyway.

Semi Happy is good. Could be worse.

Bike was very hard to start and would flood and only start with wide open throttle so I figured it had to be plugged air screw passages. When I took the air screws out to add carb cleaner, I found that the screws were a black colour. Not dirty but black metal. I replaced them with Mikuni brass air screws and suddenly it starts on the choke like it should and runs pretty well. I guess that someone and, for a change, not me, put in aftermarket air screws.
It's running nicely now. Still have a bit of a carb leak in the centre carb even with new float and needle and seat. Of course, it's always the centre cylinder....

I think this could be a reason behind difficult starting. The brass plug is missing on the right carb. Can I get these or do I have to find another carb? Can I use any H2 carb and just use the float bowl from the H2B carb for the oil line ?

You could fit a BB with some drilling or .... Do you have some JB Weld? Your question about carb fit... yes, any H2 carb would work with H2B/C guts.

I did it yesterday with JB Weld. The triples guy secret weapon.

On my old A7ss I used a small bicycle bearing from the steering. JB weld doesn't like gas and will fall apart.
