I am looking for some advice guys. I have noted that these cylinders have been plugged in the oil passage. I need to remove these to work with the early H2 oil pump and lines. Any suggestions on how best to do that? Or would you suggest just drilling a new hole through the plug?

You should be able to see through a very small hole in them.

Thanks for that advice John. Much appreciated. I was getting pretty sure that they were a jet or restrictor as you mentioned. I took a smallest carb cleaning wire I had and was able to pass it through the hole. So it looks fine. My concern was these cylinders have been vapour blasted and although rinsed a number of times, some beads can get stuck in a passage such as that. Regards

Hi Guys, I think I have some challenges with the transmission I have for this motor. Two gears on the output shaft, 2nd and 4th I believe, are worn/damaged at the right side top corners. See pics of the middle gear set. Can these gears be salvaged? Suggestions please? I have been looking for new gears but so far these ones seem pretty hard to find.

Those gears have definitely seen better days. I'm new to this game so I can't shed much wisdom.
I would maybe look at a new kickstart spring though..looks a bit wonky in the pic. That insert that goes in the end is backwards which inturn allows the spring to collapse and what not when wound.

Yep the spring was over wound. Will probably snap, replace it also.

Guys, thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Some small progress yesterday as Andy had a new spring that I was able to order and its on the way. Today I updated the pics in this thread to replace the ones that were lost in the Photobucket mess. This makes sense as I concluded a few months ago I be able to acquire enough spares to make a 73 H2 from parts. Since I now have learned how to use the new pic hosting site by North, I can show you what I have now for this project. Its in my basement right now and I am piecing things together to see what I have and what is still needed. I got quite a few parts at a Woody's in Perth ON Here are the part after cleaning. I also got a front wheel with twin disc's not shown in the pic below: I am re-using some parts I could repair / rebuild left over from my first H2 project. The steering tree is ready and most of the mounting hardware is new or zinc plated again. Here are a few more pics of where I am at.

Disassembled the output shaft gears and not surprising, a few more issues have surfaced. It looks like a lubrication failure occurred at some point and caused damage and over heating to the output shaft at the 3rd gear and 2nd gear positions. I am having trouble sliding off 2nd gear .. the shaft has over heated at that position ...

I removed 2nd gear using a puller. Here is a pic of the situation resulting from the lubrication failure.
