I have one fork off and have to take the tube nut off. I assume it unthreads about 2 inches from the top of the outer tube? The allen screw at the bottom of the fork must be holding something in place, I can get it to turn but it must be turning whatever it is threaded into inside the outer tube, likely the rod that the bottom of the spring rests on, or no? So, when I get the tube nut off and pull out the inner fork tube should I be getting the spring holder (the rod the spring sits on) out to inspect it ? Am I doing something wrong turning the allen screw at this point? I assume there is a valve of some sort in the fork, or is it just orifices in the inner tube?

Mervin, the procedure is found here: www.3cyl.com/mraxl/manuals/maint/section6.htm#alum%20disThe allen bolt generally just spins if you have already taken the fork cap off and relieved the tension. This is the fork cylinder assembly..once it is out you can remove the big circlip thingy and finish taking the inner tube slider out. If you have an impact wrench that usually undoes the allen bolt. If not you might need to fashion a tool out of PVC pipe to hold the cylinder in place from the top.

Thanks. I should have taken the Allen screw out before I removed the fork. Oh well

I put a cloth around the fork assembly and squeezed it with a rubber jaw vise to get the allen key out .
