Is the instrument module aluminum or pot metal or?? If its aluminum I was going to etch it before repainting so the paint does not bubble up. I have the paint stripped off and prior to removing the module I assumed (quite wrongly) that it was plastic, imagine that its made of metal of some sort!!!

Clarification: I put a strong paint stripper on the module to remove the paint because what I had used for paint bubbled up. The stripper removed the paint I added but does not touch the original paint. So I am guessing it was baked or powder coat, but not sure. So I guess I will just try a different paint.

I think the original cast aluminum housing was probably e coated, therefore paint stripper will not remove it. Use fine wet/dry paper (used wet) to remove the gloss & any corrosion. Re-paint satin black with either powder coat or your favorite spray bomb..

Well I will give it another whirl sanding it wet first. I do wonder why the paint crinkled up though? Everything else I painted was fine but the paint on the instrument module and actually a couple spots on the headlight body "went all wrinkley"

Okay I got it right now. The problem was that the metal was cold and I was putting the coats of paint on to thick.
