I'm hoping to repaint my '72 this winter, and I'm looking for opinions on colour. I love the original blue, but I've seen versions of it that are a little darker, and I think they look amazing. Toyota has a colour called Blazing Blue Pearl. I've seen it in person and I think it looks dynamite...but I'm looking for opinions. You can't see it on Canadian cars (for '08 anyway), but it is on the Yaris Hatchback - US model. If you follow the link, choose colours on the left and select Blazing Blue Pearl..you'll see what it looks like I would appreciate some feedback, since I only want to do this once - and I'm going to try it by myself (stop shuddering Rolland). Thanks, ian www.toyota.com/yaris/models.html

I like the blue you've picked, however, my all time favourite blue is Laser Blue. We sprayed it at the paint shop I worked at for the 2006 Chevy Cobalt and G6 skirt packages. Great metallic paint. Looks awesome, here it is on a Miata....Newer Impalas also had this paint option.

I like this color better on the FJ. Has the old sunbleached H2 blue look. Even the name is cool...Voodoo Blue The matrix color is nice too and looks close to original. Speedway Blue brawney

I was at the dealership in Oakville looking at all this crap. Pretty funny actually...out there on a sunny day going from FJ to Matrix to Echo (2005 had the pearl blue). The poor salesman couldn't figure out what I wanted.. ;D the FJ colour is cool, but it's just paint - not metallic or pearl. Kick-ass blue though (I actually like the FJ..kind of a "sensible version of the H3).

Nice!! I'll definitely go a tad stronger blue...just enough so most folks will still think it's factory, but I think the real blue looks a little weak in the sun. At Deals Gap there were probably 8 or 9 '72's with original paint...they all looked a bit different. I'm not a purist, but I don't step out too far either.
What paint are you gouing with Wayne? HOK?

Hi Ian. The one set I had done was all PPG paint and the codes were on the resource page. Unfortunately those PPG paints for that code have been discontinued so I have been told. I think it came out well see below. It is just epoxy primer, blue with pearl base coat and clear over the decals. I am no painter so I will get the set I have done already matched when I get the other body sets done. The type of paint I will leave up to the painter. There was apparently quit a few different shades of blue in 72, from what I hear. This body set actually is way darker than it appears in the pics here.
