i wish I had seen this a few weeks ago trying to clean my carbs nice proved to be a huge tasked, I soaked them in CLR, then Varsal then they turned white, when I scrubed them with warm water and took brush, the sorta smeared the white stuff around, then I did it again still have whitish carbs, tried never dull same thing, they by accident I had penetrating oil on my hands and I picked up the carb and what do ya know where I touched it it was nice I spent 30 min just rubing them down with Moovit and now they look good, I dont recomend clr on carbs.

Strip the carbs & boil them in white vinegar, (outside on the BBQ), wash in clean water & blow dry. Works for me... SoupD.

Best thing I have seen yet is a tip I got from the Z man. Behr's concrete cleaner and etcher. It has a dilute phoshpric acid that just strips away all the shelac and road grime. Bringing the natural, almost rainbow luster back to the aluminum alloy. Soak for about 5 minutes and then dunk in a stop bath of cool water and blow dry. Then rub them down well with some NevrDull cotton and polish them up. Just be sure to take all the brass you can, out of the carbs. III

I haven't tried the pinesol, but I have tried the dehr etcher + nevr dull. Got some white residue that is tenacious still showing through. It DID however, clean out 99% of the varnish and stains.

For carbs, the etch or Vinegar. Hey how come them fukcing Americans attack you if you mention Vinegar and carbs but for degreasing an engine: I just discovered how well this works, a can of spray brake cleaner. Perfectly safe on paint and rubber. You can spray a motor down while it's in the frame. No rinsing. kinda like African American Pu$$y, once you try it, you won't go back. Ask Soup what it did to my XC500 engine that had blown the RAVE valves. Nothing and I mean nothing will touch this stuff. It's like "bling" in a can

But vinegar is another mild form of acid, so I dont know why it wouldn't work fine? Followed up with that Nevrdull is the trick, so they dont get dull lookin'. Fugg them Yanks man... ;D III

I've used vinegar and promoted it's use to remove discoloration from soaking in carb cleaner. However, it is no substitute for carb cleaner. On a side note, spray some WD40 or like in the choke plunger cavity afterward to prevent seized plungers... ask me how I know

I took mine all apart and boiled the carbs and all the part's in lemon juice then sprayed them down with WD40 and let them air dry . Do this outside as it can be pretty toxic and keep an eye on it as it will boil over real quick just when you are not looking . It only takes a few minutes to remove all the residue .
I made a vid of this and if I am not to lasy I will post it . The result's are outstanding .
