When ever an engine is run it creates moisture from the compression of air. This moisture is produced all of the time . It stops dripping out of the exhaust pipe of a car when the whole system is hot enough to evaporate the water. A friend told me years ago that when storing a sled or motorbike that to start an engine on occation and run only till warm causes water to from and hang in places it shouldn’t. He suggested not to run my sleds in the summer or start my bikes in the winter but rather properly prepare the engine for storage, fog the engine. Moisture is the number one enemy of an engine in storage. Water vapor is a by-product of combustion, and this, combined with condensation and combustion acids can result in rust and corrosion during storage. Storage fogging oil is designed to cling to all internal engine parts, forming a protective barrier against acids and moisture. Warm the engine to operating temperature before fogging and follow the directions on the container. Important Note: Do not start engine during storage period, as this will disturb the oil film created by fogging.
Drain carburetor bowls and plug up the motor at both ends to keep moist air out. I did some research on this topic and no longer start-up between seasons. Every 2 stroke manufacturer I checked have this same opinion, it’s not mine. I used to start every 2 weeks or so but no longer. It is hard to resist the sound of a triple.

Good advice Don. I always put my bikes away and never start them , I'll kick them over ( slowly ) once a month . Drain carbs and rub everything down with WD40 or an oily rag . I made an exception this year , I fired up my 350 , let er run until warn then shut off the fuel tap and run her dry . Well I had to remove 1 muffler and to my surprise a good cup of water drained out ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Soo my theory is if there is water in the muffler then it just might be in the crank area as well . Better late than never I Guess. Ian

It Rolands fault.... If he didn't lend me those pipes that sound so sweet my bike would have been stored properly like it was the past 2 years... I took the motor out and put it in my office so I could hug it every night... ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) ( and take a few dimensions) Also a factor for me is I know I have an oil line check valve issue and I thought I'd avoid hydo-lock by firing her up every week... Hacker eh...lol Now your making me worried... can't wait for +6 Monday so I can take er for a good rip.
