took the 500 for a ride and after about an hour the engine came to a halt like i had rapped rope around the rear tire. i pull off the road put it neutral and gave it a kick and it started right up. road it home slow. pulled the exhaust, no scoring, pull the heads and found nothing, any ideas.

Wow that's weird. You couldn't have flooded the crank case with oil?? Seems doubtful or it wouldn't have re-fired.

How about a back brake lining coming adrift and partially locking the wheel?

How about a back brake lining coming adrift and partially locking the wheel? This is what I was thinking... I had this happen to me once when the lining was worn down to the point that the rotary fork jams, locking up the back wheel.

engine is fine 150 psi across the board with just 25 miles on new pistons and rings .starts with half a kick. the rear brake shoes are new kawasaki parts that my local dealer had laying on the shelf but i will check them just in case.it scared me good i thought i had seized the crank the way it came to a halt.

OK Don, i know what's wrong....you're going to slow. You ran it for an hour before the "seize", and you have only 25 miles on it! I figure a bike like yours should have at least 80 miles after one hour! Sorry, trying to find some humour...I'll go away now. Seriously though, what gear were you in? Had you just shifted?

Maybe you did run over something that locked up the rear wheel..and then fell off.

Is the chain and sprockets in good shape and the wheel lined up square? Also check the swing arm bushings... I had a chain lock up because the bushings were shot making the rear wheel shift under load. Of course it's not likely but the obvious has been stated already

i replaced every thing that could be change new swing arm bushings wheel bearings all the tranny bearings you name it i replaced it.I'm afraid to ride it but i guess i have to if it does it again i will have to pull the crank and check the bearing. the only thing is that i have the fuel mixed 50 to 1 and the pump running rich so i cannot see it being the crank but i have seen weirder things

its running fine i'm baffled are the ignitions prone to just cutting out for no good reason? i'm thinking that it may have cutout for a second and stalled the bike under load.
