I have a 240sx that I may be putting on the road in the future.. what are basic things I can do/ replace to make it pass? I've changed plugs, distributor cap rotor, wires, PCV valve, valve stem seals. ..What happens if it won't pass?

If you do, and it was also plated at one time in your name, you can fix it and get it to pass or you can get a 'conditional waiver' for a temporary pass. If the car isn't in your name, and you need to change it to be in your name, it HAS to pass! Things to also consider along with the items you mentioned are O2 sensors, EGR systems and catalytic converters. Vacuum leaks can be a problem on old vehicles when they involve these systems too. I hope that gives you an idea! Phone me if you want more details!

Thanks for the info. The car is in my name, but it is unplated, and i've never had it plated. The car was burning a ton of oil before I did the valve seals, and I think the Catalytic converter needs replacing for sure. It smells like its running rich.. and I have a feeling it will fail for sure.

It will need to get a full pass! I have a '92 Mazda B2200 that failed last year! It only needed a cat to pass. If you've fixed the oil burning problem, you might be 90% on your way! You might have carbon build up in the head that might need to be cleaned out. De carbonization could be helpful there. Still, get a test done and go from there! Until you get the test results, you're just blind guessing! Good luck!

No one else is even close whats the fail rate Drewski? do you ever get hassled by a customer when you failed their car? thats a pile of cars you tested, no wonder the triple progress is a little behind Fail rate is about 12 to 13 percent. That's across the board, including the old and newer vehicles. Obviously, older ones are more likely to fail. Do we get hassled?? Sure!! It used to happen a lot in the early years, but now not as often. "We" don't fail 'em... "we" just test 'em. The vehicle fails all by itself! Mostly people get "upset" when they spend 500 bucks on repairs and the results don't change!! Because we're a "test only" facility, we are trusted to give a fair test. We have nothing to gain if your vehicle does fail. Truth is, I have that many tests because I've been doing this too stinking long!! The Triple is suffering because of the hassles of running a little business that struggles to keep it's head above water!
