hello,
want to ask if anyone has the higgspeed pipes on their triple? if so, did you have to re-jet the carbs if you used the stock air box. the higgspeed website, says you might not have to with stock airbox. just want to get some members feedback.
please let me know.
per higgspeed....
DO I NEED TO REJET?? OK, IT IS TIME TO UPDATE THE JETTING INFO.
THE QUESTION OF WHETHER YOU NEED TO REJET, IS LARGELY DEPENDANT ON WHETHER YOU ARE RUNNING THE COMPLETE STOCK AIRBOX. F YOU HAVE REMOVED THE AIRBOX AND FITTED INDIVIDUAL OR POD FILTERS ,YOU WILL DEFINATELY NEED TO REJET, TYPICALLY AROUND 10 SIZES UP. MOST OF MY PIPES ARE DESIGNED TO RUN ON STANDARD JETS, BUT ONLY IF THE ENTIRE AIRBOX AND ASSOCIATED INLET TRUMPETS ARE INTACT AND IN GOOD ORDER. I.E. NOT LEAKING AIR OR CRACKED RUBBERS.
MANY BIKES HAVE A STOCK AIRBOX, WITH SOME KIND OF REMOVABLE INLET TRUMPET OR RESTRICTOR. IF THIS HAS BEEN REMOVED ON YOUR BIKE, IT WILL NEED TO BE REJETTED WITH LARGER MAIN JETS (TYPICALLY UP 3 SIZES) ,BUT CHECK YOUR MAIN JETS AS IT MAY WELL HAVE BEEN DONE ALREADY. THIS MAY SOUND VAGUE BUT DONT FORGET THESE BIKES ARE AROUND 40 YEARS OLD. THE GOLDEN RULE IS, IF IN DOUBT FIT LARGER MAIN JETS AND CHECK THE PLUG COLOUR, YOU CAN ALWAYS COME DOWN IF NECESSARY.

It's easy enough to change jets on an H2 and much better than holed pistons. Take it out and then look at the plugs. If it reads too lean change the jets up 2 or 3 sizes and read it again. Better safe than sorry....

Plus I am looking for a good painter for the bodywork to match original paint any advice on a good painter would help.

Don't even take a chance running the chambers with stock jetting, there are several different factors to consider. Air density and altitude. Increase at least one main jet size and then read your spark plugs. Not worth taking the risk of seizing or damaging a piston. In most cases you can't feel when you are rubbing lean it will run great and you only know you were running lean when the damage happens. Expansion chambers usually require an increase in main jet size. If for some reason it doesn't need it? You can jet back down.
