Ok, so if H1B timing is set for 25 degrees BTDC instead of 23 do I go with H1 or H1A carb specs? I believe the actual engines are the same except for the points ignition. H1B shows a 95 main while H1 is 100. Also I have Wirges with no back baffle and 6.5 inch belly and pods. I have started with 100 mains but think I may need them a little bigger.
I just cleaned and assembled the carbs today but am still a bit away from actually firing it up.
THoughts ??

The needles on the early bikes were different. I raced with 105’s open carbs shaved heads mild porting and Modified denco’s. If that helps. I think you are probably close Dave but do some plug chops and check the color. Brad

Just checked my notes I was running a 110 main. if your stock was 95 then with pipes pods you might want to go to 102 1/2 or 105 to start. Better safe then sorry.

Thanks Brad. I think that's a better start. I had the thought after I put in the 100s. I think I had 105's in the original H1F'n B that had a B engine. That was many years ago and I am much older and more forgetful....

Hey Dave,I was just looking through my book and it seams h1 b has a timing of 20 degrees btdc probably because of the points unless this is a typo. The H1,h1a,h1c are 25 btdc The d,e,f and h2 are all 23 btdc Something to think about. Also the carbs The early ones have 0-2 needle jets 5gl3- needles 3 cutaway Later ones have O-4/2 needle jet 5dj19-3 needle 2.5 cutaway All early ones including B came with100 main There is a fair difference in the carbs and timing so play carefully.

Thanks Brad. Yhe B was de-tuned but runs much better at 25 degrees. The resource site says B had 95 mains in stock. I asked about bigger ones due to the 25 degrees. I have an older set of carbs to put on it. I will start at 105 mains and go from there.

This is driving me crazy.
I have 97.5 mains and they seem right. My problem is idling and low speed it fouls plugs in minutes. I have 30 pilots as per resource centre specs and needle jets and needles are as per the specs too. Slides are 2.0 cut away again as per specs. Do I change to a 2.5 cut away slide. I have the air screws out 2 full turns. Using Autolite 2634 plugs which have been great in my KH 500. Can't find B9HS these days.
I have strong spark and timing is 25 BTDC. I think that's all the pertinent info.
Almost forgot, float level is 25 mm.

Take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but I'd try smaller pilots considering you're out 2 turns on the idle screw and still rich.

Are you using resistor plug caps?
I like to stay with steel core ignition wire and no resistors to eliminate that as part of the problem. Isn’t that what they had originally?

Wire core wires and non-resistor caps
I do find it weird because I have never had to go smaller than stock on pilot jets before. I do have some 27.5 here . I will blow out all air passages again just to be sure that is not the problem.

That is strange... One other thing to consider is the oil you use. I had a similar problem that went away when I changed from dino oil to synthetic and put in iridium plugs.

What are you using for air filter(s)

I have pods but they are not on yet so, wide open intake...
Using Castrol 2T. Can't go to synthetic because it is a new bore and pistons.

How about the float heights? If anything, it should be lean with no filters.
