Does anyone in Hamilton area do crankshaft rebuilds. Just tore down a 400 motor and not happy with bearings. I have a seal set ready to go. Or...I am looking for a crank for 75 KH 400?

A lot of members use Jeff at New Hamburg Cycle - he built a crank for my S3 about 10 years ago and it runs very well. www.nhcycle.ca

I had a crank done at NH cycle, he wasn’t very particular about the runnout. Another member here had the same issue.

It’s a darn good question as I need crank work done as well. Didn’t Ned use Burlington Cycle? I was going to ask around who the best sled mechanic was in my area. They would need to still need to deal with triple cylinder cranks.

Thanks again Pretty sure they don't rebuild cranks - Ned had his H2 crank done at NH and his H1 crank was done by Gord Bush (I think). Another option is John Tripp in Oakville..never had a crank done by him, but he helped me out with some stuff on my KH250 and he has build loads of cranks. www.trippscycle.com/#prettyPhoto

Not to poke you guys but did any of you bother to check runnout on the cranks you got done before recommending this guy? I know LC and I did and runnout was way out of spec. If everyone who says the guys work is great, let me know what the numbers are, if LC and I were the unlucky ones, I’ll drop my rant.

He replaced a rod on my H2 (hydrolock) and told me the runout was a little over .001" .. it runs very smooth although I am suspicious it might be a tick out of phase. Never checked my 400 crank but it has been mis-shifted to infinity RPM and is still incredibly smooth. I would take your word Andrew -- 100% -- so maybe if anyone is concerned, check the runout before plunking down the simoleans.

When a .004” runnout conversation turns into a conversation about the factory being too fussy with a .001” tolerance, the guy loses me pretty quick. He checks the runnout with the crank held between centres, that should be clue right there.
