You mentioned you changed the oil tank Did you verify oil flow past the filter and did you bleed the air from the lines and pump?

As above. Mix the gas, start it up and then hold the oil pump wide open. You can see the oil inching its way through the lines from the tank to the pump and then to the engine. Then finally you smoke the heck out of the neighbourhood.

Noise source located and I feel like an idiot. It’s coming from the tach. Initial start up the tach works smoothly. Once squealing starts it begins the needle jumps erratically.

About bleeding the oil lines. There IS air bubbles in the supply line to the pump. Should I be concerned? As I said all pipes pour smoke profusely. I did jam the oil pump fully open for about minute or so of run time. Same oil bubble.

Pulled out my Glenn’s manual. Oil line bled.

Cool, glad it's something non-motor related! The line from tank to pump is a gravity feed so if air bubbles there, check the filter on the oil tank to see if it is clogged. Fwiw, the tack and the oil pump are powered by the same gear off the crank nose. If your tach ever stops working, remember that the oil pump could be affected as well.

Your tach drive cable may be dry. I had a similar ocurrance like yours, I lubed the tach cable and the squealing went away. Just a thought.

Thanks for everyone’s helpful suggestions. Gotta fix the tach and come up with a rear brake light switch spring and I’m done..... for now.
