Good numbers !! WOW those hand written time slips go back a LONG time !! What year were those runs ? The track closed for a number of years and then was taken over by new management. We go to the track quite regulary. Best place, best way to test and tune the bikes.Any pictures of you and your bike at the track ?

tzrcarbonn,
- I was a drag racer of a stock 1972 Kaw H2 from 1973-1985. Ran 1/4 in 12.22 and 1/8 in 7.99.
- Would have thought TZ700 would do in the 9's. Are you running a wheelie bar? Do you still drag race?

Those are good numbers for the H2 750.Friend of mine no longer with us named Jim Morris bought a drag bike from FBG back in the day. There was a picture of it posted here but it was removed along with a lot of other pictures when the server pulled them off. It was a record holder. It was an 8 second bike. Picture I have of it was taken at Napierville.

Gentlemen, - Stock gearing on the H2 was 14/47. I change it within the first year to 14/49 or 14/50 because I could not pull redline in high gear with stock gearing. With the lower gearing I was able to pull 8500 RPM in high gear and achieve the same top speed as with the stock gearing. When I hit the last light in the 1/4 mile, I was at 8500 RPM and about 130 MPH (Avg. for time slip approx. 122 MPH).

JA-Moo, - Ok maybe it was 15/47 and I changed to 14/49 or 14/50! I also have a 53 so that I could have gone to 15/53, but never used it because I used stock endless OEM chains and they were not long enough. I could use it now, because I use a link.I believe that's what I said.
tzrcabonn,
- My hole shot approach was to warm the tire up so that it would NOT spin off the line then on launch I controled the wheelie with the clutch, slipping it to keep the front wheel where i wanted it while holding engine speed at (or about at (redline). Just as fast as I can get my feet on the pegs, I'm at redline; shift to second. Then third (some time in there the front wheel touches down) and as you said "the rest is usually easy" (head down & tucked in); forth & fifth.
Cheers, Dick J. - NY

Drag racing a two stroke motorcycle, is always difficult to run identical ET/MPH from one run to the next.Very difficult to duplicate your launch from one run to the next.IE: Let out the clutch "exactly" the same way at same RPM is not easy.Drop the clutch slightly below the power band and you will bog,Riding the clutch out and you can over heat the clutch and wind up with some slipping.A good launch and good 60 FT times are most important.I brought my 500 to the track last year. Proceedure was as follows. Burn out and heat up the tire and make sure it was cleaned and no water inside the rear fender that would drip on the tire making it spin.No dry hops or you might take the bite off the tire.Roll into the pre stage beam then relax for a second and rev up the engine to clean off the spark plugs,Then slowly roll into the staging beam and stage the bike.I would prefer to deep stage.Once staged be ready, wait for the tree to come down and then launch on your favorite spot on the tree.If you wait for the green light you are going to have a terrible reaction time !! Having a wheelie bar is a must if you want to try and duplicate your launches.Again wheelies are by product of when and how hard you drop the clutch.I realised after several passes and discovered that my clutch was slipping a bit.I thought I was having traction problems, or wheelie bar unloading the tire. But it ended up being the clutch. The clutch worked fine on the street.Normal driving. I had a roller clutch pusher and some HD springs but the clutch plates though fine for normal use didn't hold up to the burn outs and the hard launches. There was no problem at all with slippage driving it around town etc.I replaced the clutch and springs and it is now 100 %.Fresh clutch and regular replacement a must and to be expected if drag racing and continued burn outs and hard launches.Modified HD clutch be great for an all out drag bike.I would like a project of building a drag bike in the future with an air shifter and a purpose built modified HD clutch. When I get through the other projects I am working on.
