Hey guys. Looking into different options for rims for my race bike.. stock s3 front end and swing arm. Looking for something light weight and would consider re-lacing onto a stock hub. It must fit vrra requirements. Also want to upgrade my stopping power. Is a 500ex caliper the best way to go. Vrra allows a maximum of 4pot brakes

Mitch if you read the rules for p2 heavy you will see the most you can use is two opposing piston calipers meaning one on each side of the disk.If your looking to lighten things up you could lace an aluminum rim to your hub (max 2.5 wide in the rules) or find a smaller drum from a dirt bike which already has a wide aluminum rim, make some spacers & bolt it on. For the front go find a big kz1000 (might be GPZ<cant remember)four bolt disk (you only need one)which happens to bolt on to the 400 hub and is thinner. Lace it to aluminum rim.I think the Yamaha rd 400 and for sure the xs650 has the opposed twin piston caliper.Make an adapter & your front is good.Dont forget the braided line. I would just do the big disc on the front with opposed piston caliper on your wheel for now.Lots of practice racing and worry about ligtining up the bike in a season or two.

If your trying to keep things on the cheep.Look for a set of shocks of the back of the kz1000ltd early 80's they have about 6 settings at each end. Also use the 500 front end with the 400 wheel.More clearance for the pipes. The trouble with lacing wheels & aluminum rims is you will have $500.in each wheel before you know it.

Thanks for the tips brad. I'm really not overly concerned with weight. The bike is already significantly lighter and I'm pretty small myself so I have that advantage already! Just curious if there's any cheap easy rim options. Im more concerned about the breaking I believe I may just have a kz1000 rim and even and rd caliper. Time to start looking through my bins.

RZ350 swing will bolt straight on , same front axle size and length and you get a wider rear wheel and disk brake .
