Hello, has any one fitted a small in line ON/OFF valve in the oil line from the oil tank to stop possible check valve leaking in the crank over time when sitting around not in use. Naturally, this has risks if you forget to turn the valve on again before your start the bike, however on the other hand, it is a full proof method to stop leaking check valves. I know you can refurbish c/valves and oil lines these days as well, however I would be keen to know if anyone also uses a valve? I know some of the guys with Suzuki triples use this method.

A few of the American guys have them installed now. Darth has his wired so it wont let the bike start without turning the oil on 1st.

I've seen a few guys up here in Canada run the same valve that III is talking about. I was planning on putting one on my bike as well.
Pretty sure sure you need to replace the original "thicker" stock line in order to accommodate the valve fittings... Guys?

The solenoid isn't fail safe though, 1 clipped wire and you're toast. I think Darth got it right with a microswitch on the valve. It would make a good product to make a kit Darth, just sayin!

I did the valve with microswitch method and love it. I got the idea from Darth. He found an industrial valve with a built in switch, I believe. I put a flat on the stem of a Swagelok valve's handle and mounted a Cherry switch.
I know for a fact that I would ruin my H2's engine if it didn't have an ignition interlock on the valve. Maybe not right away, but at some point, something would distract me and I'd forget to turn on the oil.

The red on/off valve at homo depot is like five bucks, put it on my frankentriple, on all the time, turned off for long term non use, ie 2-3 weeks or more. I juat leave myself a reminder note on the speedo, simple n safe.

Great, thanks for the info - I'll check the manual valve plus having a decal warning instruction either on the tank or dials. Does anyone know what type and make the electic valve is with the micro switch?

You're mind is a lot sharper than mine, Syd. A warning decal would never keep me from trashing my engine. And a note on my speedometer would get knocked off somehow, with the same result.

If the valve is off and the check valves leak all or some of the oil into the crank does this leave an air pocket in the lines?
Not sure if anyone has ever seen this or tested it. I would assume the vacuum in the line created by the fluid leaking would just prevent further leaking. Comments....

My only comment is that if the valves are leaking, it's worth the effort to fix them. I had a spring go and it filled my crank in 2 weeks. Replaced the spring and it was dry after a winter of sitting. Maybe the better fix is to make those useless emission valves in the front of the motor into quick drain valves so you can monitor the condition of your check valves instead of turning off the supply because you know they are pooched?

The line to the pump will stay full, and the pump will refill the lines way before the engine will notice the air bubbles.

I have the cheap mower valve installed on all my bikes and previous triples, its just an insurance plan, life for me has gotten in the way of riding as much as I like so its a nice way to know upon start up everything will be ok and yes on occasion I have forgotten to turn it on but not before leaving for a ride,, Its always been a habit since a young kid to turn on or off my fuel tap, so for me its just another step in the start up and shut down procedure..
