I picked up a pretty decent RD350LC last weekend.Been trying to get it for a while now .Finally managed to get it.Brought it home and fired it up.It runs pretty good.Right in the middle of two other projects a72 H2 and a 73 H1.I guess I will get side tracked for a little while cleaning and detailing the RD.Brother Duane doing a full frame up on an RD350LC right now, he saved the engine from an RD350LC he had several decades ago.I remember when he took it to the track it was running between 12:90 - 13:00 ET .That is pretty much what my H1 500 ran with Denco chambers at the track last summer. He ported the cylinders on the RD350LC and put TZ750 reeds and bigger carbs and chambers on it.These RD350LC can be made to be pretty quick with just the usual bolt ons etc... I am not going to hot rod mine except to put some spec 2 chambers on it.They are great bikes.Smooth comfortable handle like a dream and pretty fast for 350'S.I like it !!

Yes I have had a couple over the years. Can make almost as much hp as a TZ.Love to wheely.Handle well & pretty fast but all finished at just over 100mph.Way to quiet, smooth & refined.

Not so quiet when you put a set of pipes on and do some other mods. And not so tame either.Having the reeds they are a lot more prone to lifting the front wheel than a triple. In fact if they didn't handle so well and if they didn't have a good frame and suspension, one might be in a lot of trouble when stuff like lifting the front happens. They are not JUST pretty FAST.They are darn FAST for a "350".Like I said bros RD350LC was running just as fast as my H1 500 with DENCO chambers that I ran at the track last summer IE high 12'S and low 13'S.I like them a lot but triple is still my favorite.

Sounds like your brother has done about all he can with his.Remember your bike is at least 100 lbs heavier & not so worked over. Some of these small bikes can really get it on.A stock 250 Yamaha td1c like mine held the 1/4 mile record in the UK for 10 years from around 1970 through 1980.With an et of 11.6

RD350LC I am taking about and the performance my brother got from it was THREE decades ago.We both got out of bikes three decades ago, and only got back into it a couple of years ago. This particular RD350LC engine that ran 12:90/13:00ET has been sitting in storage for three decades. He sold the bike and kept this spare engine. He is building an RD350LC right now and plans to use it for that build,It is pretty mild by TODAYS standards.Certainly NOT a max effort.Considering all the Banshee stuff and RZ350 stuff that is available and modern pipes they have for them TODAY.I did find it interesting by comparison that it ran as well as my H1 500 when we ran the H1 at the track last summer.I just wanted to share that info.

Yes they are great bikes.Yamaha learned a lot from racing. In fact in the vrra they are forced to run against gpz750,gs750,& h1r.Thats why you don't see any out there.Ten years of tec gained on the old 500 triple makes a huge difference. With water cooling, reeds and a close ratio gear box to keep it in the power band. Not to mention more HP & way lighter.

They are fun bikes to ride. But in many ways they can't compare to the experience of riding a triple.

Well I am going to put my H1 500 aside that I have posted pictures of that I rebuilt and restored and pictures of at the track.I am going to put it up for sale soon and moved on to working on my newly acquired RD350LC yesterday.I removed the body panels and am going to refinish them back to the original white and clean and detail the rest of the bike and put on a set of spec 2 chambers and drive it while I am working on my other triples. My bother Duane is doing a full frame off resto on his RD350LC it is looking fantastic and it will have a hot rod engine in it.Having several RD'S around is a nice additionl to the mix of triples. And sure are a lot of fun to ride !!

The guy I bought the RD350LC contacted back and told me he found a complete set of original Yamaha OEM NOS stickers for the tans and side covers etc..He had. BONUS !! As I didn't know about them and wasn't expecting them as part of the deal. Going to strip the tank and side covers and prep and paint them in the shop, using the new stickers !! I really like this project already !!!
