Hey guys,
Just bled the brakes after rebuilding caliper and master cylinder. Master is a 5/8. I feel that I have to build pressure in the lever... my question is. Do I have to bleed more? Is the 5/8 master wrong for a single disk set up on a 75 H1?
Thoughts?

It should be a 9/16" for a single caliper. The 5/8" was used for dual disks. If you want a great brake, put an EX caliper on it with a 1/2" EX master cylinder, per the information on the resource site under "caliper conversion".

Hmmm
Thanks Jim. Would I be wasting my time if I continue bleeding? Assuming the 5/8 will still work...?

I don't think you'll be happy with a 5/8" master cylinder and a single disk. Once you get it bled, it'll feel very rigid and require a lot of pull. 5/8" MCs are in demand by guys who want a stock dual disk setup, so you should be able to find a home for it pretty easily. If you sell it, you might be able to finance the entire EX system and have money left over.

Yes, you can go that route too, for a stock look. Calipers can be converted to work on the opposite side. It'll be quite a bit heavier than a single EX, and not feel as good, but it's a lot better than a single disk with a 5/8" master.
I've been running a dual stock disk setup on my H2 for decades, and I'm just about to convert to a single disk and EX caliper/master setup. With HH pads, it gives a 2-finger brake.

No, 12 mm for a EX. Mater size is actually super critical.

I *think* a stock EX master cylinder for the single disk models is either 12.7mm (1/2") or 13mm, but I haven't measured one. You got one around to check, John?
I'm going to use a 12.7mm master with a built in brake light switch that I got from eBay for $22. I have one just like it on my DT100 and it's been excellent for several years now. It was listed for a Honda XR250R.
