Here is some early motorcycle (hill climb) events that were done in Alberta in the early 70's. See attachment. They are not very clear as even having a video camera back in these days was not common- so click on the theater mode to help. I had the pleasure of being one of the (bike catchers) on the Red Deer hill back in the late 60's. Nothing like having an old Indian bike with chains on the back tire jump right over you! Some of these videos have sound. You have to be patient and take the time to view most of the events or try to search for the triples. (you guys will know it when year hear them!!!!) These were from the Pearson family who were Kawasaki dealers back in the 70's and 80's. They were the first (out west anyway) to install Kaw. Mach 3 engines 500cc in to KX frames. (500 class) They also installed a H2 engine 750cc in another KX frame. (open class). They topped it off by installing a KZ1100 engine 1100cc in another KX frame and also ran it in the (open class) Brian Pearson was the main rider but they did have others on the team. In most of the riders who make it over the top- Brian would be one of them or perhaps the only one. Enjoy! m.youtube.com/watch?v=iE1HdpQOEWY

Sorry guys this is from the early 80's not 70's when we had access to lots of used kaw. triples (they were cheap then) Also check out the other events in Red Deer or Medicine Hat etc. Anything that has Aaron Pierson being the one who posted it will probably have the sound of a triple at work.

Cool to see the link floating around, some of you know but many might not. I am Aaron Pierson, my father was Brian and grandfather Smokey. I have my fathers 1100cc open bike still and my grandfathers H2 open bike. i do have plans on getting down to billings to ride the 1100cc this year... roym, you must remember my grandfathers HD hillclimber? i have a small bit of super8 footage of it in action, but the bike has long been missing and i cannot seem to locate it. http://instagram.com/p/BKgIN-kjtQN http://instagram.com/p/BNgARY1DazT

Hi Aaron, I do remember Smokey's hill climber and had the pleasure of seeing him run it in Red Deer a couple of years. The year I decided to be one of the bike catchers was the first year and got a (hands on) to assist him on the hill side. Too bad it has disappeared on your family. But I see you did manage to keep his H2 750 and Brians (dads) 1100. Good luck with hopefully running it in Billings this year! I'm going to have to find the date of Billings as a few of us old timers from around (central Alberta) have wanted to ride down and take the event in.

Aaron,Send me the scrap book link. I would love to see it.
Do you know if your dad had met or competed against John Williams from Ontario?
Drewski,Seaglider and I ran into John at the Toronto Motorcycle show a couple of weeks ago. He's quite the guy! "John won five American grand national championships and ten Canadian championships between 1958 and 1993, and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. In 1978, he and his bike were voted the best motorcycle and rider by the American Hillclimbers Association. At Newry, Pennsylvania, John was the first to ever climb the hill which had defeated all comers for the preceding ten years. Two of John’?s hill record times remain unbroken after more than 20 years."canmoto.ca/john-williams-class-of-2009/

I rode the 1100 and I lent my 750 to a good friend of mine. Here's a link to a few vids from the season. The one in the dark on the 1100 was good for a 7th in the pro open exhibition class.
