i have just discovered a solution to a problem i found on my friends kh500. he has uni pods that cracked under the hose clamp. the reason why they cracked (one likely from being overtightened) was because of a mis match in sizing (the pods don't fit snugly on the carb). the vm28 carb inlets are 1 11/16" o.d. and the uni's are 1 3/4" i.d. dia. this mismatch caused the rubber on the uni's to deform and crack. the next size down in pod is 1 1/2" which is too snug to fit over the carb. so, take your old early h1/h2 head pipe to exh pipe rubbers (hopefully you keep all your old parts otherwise you'll have to buy) and slip it into the pod and then slip it over your carb. those rubbers have a stepped i.d. so orientate them so that the wider part fits over the carb. then put your hose clamp on (not too tight) and you have a perfect fitting pod.
