Well, when riding with a bunch of Triples, the zrx seems to get about double the mileage. I only had to fill up about half as often!! The mileage isn't much of an issue. That's 'miles' or 'kilometres'!!

What's the deal with the 1100 ZRX? Is it a good bike as well or recommended to hold out for the 1200?

Everyone knows that diesels get better mileage than real motors Curtis......... My diesel will clobber most "real" engines Maybe in a straight line! Lol! I'd give it a go with the tractor!! But at least throw a curve or two on there just to make it interesting. Lol!!!

There's some debate on that issue within the zrxoa forum. LOTS of guys swear by their 1100's. Some believe the engine is better than the 1200 as far as a "hotrod project" goes. There are lots of interchangeable parts between the 2 bikes. For our purposes, I'd say you can't go wrong with either.

I own a a red ZRX1100 and have ridden the 1200 also. During normal street and highway riding I didn't notice much difference. A few years back did about 15 miles on the ZRX1200 then switched to a 1981 GPZ 1100 for another 15 miles. I was very surprised at how similar they were in a seat to seat comparison. The GPZ100 style was also similar back in 1981. On a track I'm sure the ZRX1200 is an improvement but the ZRX is no sport bike. They are very heavy and only about 115Hp if I remember correctly. Like Drew said very reliable and retro looking and very comfortable too. After all, it is important to most of us to like the style of the bikes we own and the ZRX was designed to have the old KZ Lawson look about it. Seaglider upgraded his ZRX1200 big time and seems to have it working up to track standards and it looks great. I also think the 5 speed is great. No need for extra shifting but I would agree that with all that torque a taller 5th would be a bonus when cruising and I will switch sprockets on mine if I don't sell it. I also added a taller wind shield (not shown below) and that was a nice improvement when touring. Seaglider has a taller one his also (see photo above ). Now my coat doesn't pop open like a parachute if your coat is open a little.

I went with a ZX14 package from a guy in Milton that took the parts left over from the manufacturer of the T-Rex. So I got the Front forks, wheels and brakes. I went with LSL triples to allow the retention of handle bars instead of clip-ons....I didn't think a REX looked right without the bars. I also upgraded to Ohlins on the back. I highly recommend it as the combination of suspension and brakes makes a huge difference.
