I've been doing some reading up and discussing with LC on using VM34's on an H1. We discussed that porting the engine to Denco 75 specs would be beneficial, but for the sake of discussion, I'm wondering what affect just using 34's without the porting on an otherwise stock H1A engine and WTF pipes would be like. I know that to realize the benefit of the 34's some mild porting is required but is it mandatory? Reason being, I'm aways off from having another engine that I intend to port ready for the coming season. Also not interested in trying to find VM30-200 carb mounts to use stock H2 carbs when I already have a set of 34's. Long inquiry short, is using 34's on a stock H1 engine going to create an unmanageable, detrimental situation compared with staying with the 28's?

You can install them to try, nothing should be irreversible. Larger carbs usually help up top for more rpm, but 34's are so much easier to jet......

You will have to make carb mounts & buy carb boots & a longer throttle cable. After that you will loose low & mid range power just to gain a little on top.Sure the pipes will help but without the porting to go with it she will be over carbed,The Yamaha RDLC & RZ make 60-70 hp on 26mm carbs & are a rocket right through the range. If you already have the 28's I would just use them & change the carbs when you do the porting.Unless you plan to use the bike for racing. If so than just go for it.

Thanks John, brad and lc. As for andrew, dave and Steve, I'll just have to feed you guys beer at the next meet. Mounting the 30's for now. Got a line this afternoon on some vm30-200 mounts. That and a 14 tooth front sprocket should improve things for cayuga.

I would open it up and taper it to the diameter of the original port
