Yeah I've heard of this jim, I use similar kits on other bikes and always buy OEM or genuine mains and needles. Pilots I'm okay to try (I have a little wire probe kit to check size) and same with float needle/seats. I had a bad issue on a CB350 kit where the slide needle bottomed out on the needle jet and have always binned those parts since then. the gaskets sometimes require a tiny bit of trimming etc... to fit as well, but like I said, it's not that big of a deal to me. I buy them mainly because $8 a kit is worth it for the few bits I would buy anyways (springs, pin, gaskets, etc...), which is the same as what I'd keep out a K&L kit. I'm also canning the base/head gaskets for some custom sized copper ones to take care of decking.
As for the pistons, they're from japan, but I'm assuming they're made in taiwan. Quality and material looks nearly identical to the emgo piston sets I've used before on 4S stuff. They're cheap mainly because it doesn't cost much to make cast pistons of comparable composition to '70's stuff today. The materials to make something like that don't cost much, it's the post casting machining that makes it expensive.
