WD-40 is petroleum based but I don't think it would be any more aggressive than kerosene.... I believe it was named WD-40 because it was a "water displacement" originally designed to dry out electrical equipment or iggy's WD40 is 50% mineral spirits. It was originally developed to prevent corrosion on Atlas missiles. It should not be used to clean electrical contacts.

Mineral spirits = Varsol = paint thinner (not lacquer thinner) This stuff shouldn't hurt fork seals or other rubber parts. At least I've never had a rubber part that was damaged by it.
The best electrical contact cleaner I've used is DeoxIT D5 spray, sold by Caig. They also have a liquid version with I think is D100.

Not doing fork seals any harm then? Quote from WD-40: WD-40® Multi-Use Product can be used on just about everything. It is safe to use on metal, rubber, wood and plastic. It can also be applied to painted metal surfaces without harming the paint. Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic are among the few surfaces on which to avoid using a petroleum-based product like WD-40® Multi-Use Product.

If you go to their website they explain it's meant for displacing moisture from electrical systems and to eliminate moisture induced short circuits. Further to protect against future moisture and corrosive elements. Imo any seal that is resistant to petroleum based products should be fine. As fork seals are in contact with oil, I'd say they are fine. Not sure about dust seals but I'd assume they'd use petroleum resistant rubber there as well.

I really would like to find a good set of caps for the carbs when taking off pods to wash it. So far hose clamp and cut tubes is a pain in the ass. Was looking into "caplugs" but I don't really want to special order only three. Might be worth a big order if others are interested??? They will build them to your very own specifications with a few choices of materials. What about seran rap with heavy elastics around the carbs . That might work for yah ...
