Got home from Don's - what a rush that was. Took off the right jug and found the base gasket was somehow stretched into the cylinder, leaving a nice gap! New gasket, torqued it down, 2 kick and ...I'm running!. "Borrowed" the plates from the C, and went rippin'. OK I know I suck mechanically, but this thing seems to running great! The clutch is adjusted so no more slip - the cable seems to be hanging up?? Pull is 2 fingers easy but when you let it out, it kind of takes up a bit slow. Oh well, never mind, the engine runs great all through the rpms..if anything a tad lean. Also, how can I be 100% sure the oil pump works properly? The lines are quite yellowed, but it looks like blue oil is going in, there's a decent cloud behind be when I goose it, but I'm really nervous - 3 years of premix will do that.
Anyhow, thanks for all your help!

Ian,
Your bike looks fantastic.
To see oil in old yellow'd lines, I find a bright flashlight behind the lines while it's running helps. At least it should allow you to see if there are air pockets.
Need just base gaskets? I have them separately as well.
See ing the pics, really makes me feel like a loser for missing the gathering at Don's.

Nice 72 Ian, the work never ends does it. I'm a little nervous these day's about saying "I'm going out to work on my bike a while", ole Sal want's a few things done around this dump, can't say I blame her...keep up the good work.
Them meter rubbers you gave me at Rolands were actually early H1. Too small for the B. I gave them to R.H., (not Ralph Hildebrant). RH wonder's how I keep coming up with this early stuff, lucky I guess. I gave him some early H1 stuff before, I'm proud to say some of my parts made it onto a "PERFECT" 69, it is sweet with my fender, guages etc...I knew you were on your way saturday, you just missed him. I was hoping to introduce you to him. When I find early stuff it's his, this guy is responsible for quite a bit of my semi-resto's (he's a GURU, very, very Humble, hell of a nice guy) He hasn't got a ride on the road presently. He was with Rick Yates, in a straw hat. The rubbers are for his other early H1. I showed him how the sun faded them a bit but he has some chemical that will turn them new again. I'll take you up sometime, your jaw will hit the floor when you see what I've seen, I guarantee that

Well I got the old '72 all legal and licensed (thanks to Rick). Put the shiny new plates on last night and decided to go for a rip. The bike starts as good as any H2 could -- 1 maybe 2 kicks cold, 1 kick hot. It's quieter than the "C", but it feels quite a bit buzzier, and the shocks are stiffer than a donkey's plonker (one small bump in the road, and I disagree is airborne). Anyway, the bike is a blast, quick, peaky, ballsy.. but some of the noises coming from the engine when you're off the throttle!! Oh well, I guess you get used to it?? Man, what's more fun than an old triple? I stop at Tim's and there's a bunch of bikes there including an old ('72 I think) CB750 and a few other vintage Jap bikes; there's Hardley's and cruisers there too -- but who draws the crowd? You guessed it! The old H2..and out come the old BS stories too. Ha, most are crap, but I let all go! Thanks to all you puds for helping me get this thing going. I think all of you contributed in some way or another.

You're welcome! Glad to be part of the project. I also noticed that Pipewelders 72 seemed to attract the most people at the Paris Rally! Guess they didn't know they really should have been checking out Lou's bike. ;D Ignorance of the masses eh?

Is this H2 going to RBs ? I think I will take it to RB's but I need to get some miles on it so I can build a little confidence. One signal came loose last night, and I'm paranoid that the left cylinder smokes less than the other 2.. so I just need to get 500 miles or so on it before I feel right about things.

"I also noticed that Pipewelders 72 seemed to attract the most people at the Paris Rally!"
It the same at Haugen's! But then usually it's the only 2 stroke in the place. Even when Jim's '72 is parked beside some of Bar's bikes he attracts a crowd!
